Vietnam - Cambodia accelerate tourism cooperation

According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, since the signing of the memorandum of understanding on tourism cooperation in 2020, the exchange of visitors between Vietnam and Cambodia has made remarkable progress. In 2024 and the first 6 months of 2025, Cambodia welcomed about 600,000 Vietnamese visitors, while Vietnam also received nearly 400,000 Cambodian visitors.

These figures show that the demand for mutual tourism is increasing, especially thanks to the close geographical location and cultural similarities. This is considered an important foundation for the two countries to continue to exploit their advantages and expand new tourism products.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Nguyen Van Hung emphasized: Culture and heritage are the fulcrum to promote the country's image, while creating a long-term connection between the two peoples. He also expressed his hope that there will be more specific solutions to increase the number of visitors, making bilateral tourism a bright spot in economic and cultural cooperation.

On the Cambodian side, Minister Huot Hak affirmed that the potential for cooperation is still very large. He hopes that Vietnam will support the organization of tourism survey delegations so that both sides can learn and share experiences in product management and exploitation.

In addition to continuing to implement existing agreements, the two sides agreed to promote the signing of new cooperation documents, in which priority is given to road tourism to facilitate cross-border travel. In particular, the idea of organizing border events such as cross-border racing and marathons was proposed to create a highlight to promote and attract international visitors.

Previously, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc also welcomed Minister Huot Hak, emphasizing that Ho Chi Minh City always plays an important role in cooperation with Cambodia, especially with the capital Phnom Penh. With the vision of becoming a "super city" and a regional economic and logistics center, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to make a strong contribution to bilateral tourism connections.

Tourism experts say that in addition to their strengths in cultural and heritage tourism, both Vietnam and Cambodia have advantages in river tourism, eco-tourism and resort tourism. Coordinating promotions in international markets such as Europe, Korea, Japan, etc. will help increase their appeal and create more attractive international product packages.
