Vietnam rises to 71st place out of 193 countries in the United Nations e-Government rankings

This afternoon, February 6, Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Committee on Digital Transformation (CĐS) Pham Minh Chinh chaired a conference to summarize the activities of the National Committee on Digital Transformation and Project 06 in 2024, and deploy key tasks in 2025. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Hoang Nam attended the conference at the Quang Tri bridge.

According to a report by the Ministry of Information and Communications , in 2024, the e-Government development ranking will improve significantly. Vietnam will rise to 71st place out of 193 countries in the United Nations e-Government rankings, up 15 places compared to 2022.

This is also the first time Vietnam has been ranked in the group of countries with a "very high" e-Government Development Index (EGDI). The institution has resolved many long-standing bottlenecks and created new space and development momentum for the economy . Digital infrastructure has been expanded and developed.

Regarding digital government, the Prime Minister has resolutely directed ministries, branches and localities to implement digital transformation with focus, key points and breakthroughs. The proportion of digital economy in 2024 is estimated to reach 18.3% of GDP, with a growth rate exceeding 20%/year, 3 times higher than the GDP growth rate, the fastest in Southeast Asia. Retail e-commerce reached 25 billion USD in revenue, an increase of about 20%.

Vietnam is among the top 10 countries with the fastest e-commerce growth rate in the world. With the digital society, for the first time, the access rate of "Make in Vietnam" digital platforms compared to foreign digital platforms exceeded 20%, an increase of 5.62% compared to 2023. With this result, Vietnam has become one of the few countries with a high number of domestic digital platform users.

Regarding the implementation of Project 06, 2024 is the year identified as "Completing institutions, infrastructure, and digitalizing data to improve the quality of human resources, promoting the implementation of Project 06, effectively serving people and businesses". The working group implementing Project 06/CP has coordinated with ministries, branches, and localities to promote the completion of groups of issues.

As a result, the National Public Service Portal has provided 4,427/6,283 online public services (accounting for 70.3% of the total number of administrative procedures). Up to now, over 87.7 million chip-embedded citizen identification cards have been issued, nearly 81 million electronic identification records have been collected and nearly 60 million accounts have been activated; 56.8 million customer records have had their biometric information compared with chip-embedded citizen identification cards and via VNeID; population data has been applied to authenticate and clean up more than 115 million mobile subscriber information out of a total of 127 million subscribers...

At the conference, representatives of ministries, branches and localities clarified the achieved results as well as proposed specific solutions to implement digital transformation work and Project 06 in the coming time.

Speaking at the conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized: Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation has strategic significance, marking an important turning point for the country in the fields of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation.

Immediately after the resolution was issued, the Government promptly directed the issuance of an Action Program to implement Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW with the spirit of 5 clear points: "clear people", "clear work", "clear responsibility", "clear time" and "clear results".

This is a comprehensive action program, designed with a long-term vision, clear goals and highly feasible solutions, to concretize the Party's major orientations and policies into practical and realistic actions. At the same time, this action program is also the key directions and tasks to promote the implementation of digital transformation and Project 06 in the coming time.

According to the Prime Minister, the population database is being exploited effectively, but to be more effective, agencies and units must establish their own databases, connected to the national population database, to have a complete database, which is the foundation for promoting smart intelligence. The Prime Minister requested ministries, branches and localities to make efforts to come up with solutions to promote digital transformation more strongly, more effectively and more practically, helping people enjoy more. Clearly identify tasks and key solutions to accelerate, break through and reach the finish line in the coming time.
