- From someone who is used to using gasoline cars, what prompted you to switch to electric cars and choose VinFast VF 8?
Previously, when using a gasoline car, when I had to wait for relatives, I was very reluctant to sit in the car with the engine on for a long time because of the unpleasant smell. So, in 2022, when VinFast launched the VF 8, I decided to switch to using an electric car. In addition, I work in the information technology field, so I quite like new technology.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hiep ( Hanoi ) shared his satisfaction with the decision to buy VF 8.
- So does the current VF 8 meet your expectations at that time?
After using it for a while, I am completely satisfied with this decision. In addition to reducing unpleasant odors, fuel costs are also significantly reduced compared to using a gasoline car.
Currently, I travel an average of 5,000 km a month. With my previous gasoline car, it cost me around 5 million VND. But when I switched to an electric car, for the same distance, I almost didn’t spend any money every month because I was enjoying the free charging policy. Even when the free program ended, it was estimated that my travel expenses would be about 60% less than filling up with gas.
- The biggest change when switching from a gasoline car to an electric car is the habit of charging instead of filling up with gas. What was your experience like?
I had almost no problem finding a charging point, because V-Green's charging infrastructure for VinFast car owners has wide coverage, and there are also many fast charging stations.
Charging time is not a big problem. On average, charging from 0-80% only takes about 30 minutes. VF 8 can go about 400 km/charge, I can't go all 400 km at once, but need to rest to ensure my health while driving. Therefore, charging time will also be my time to rest and relax, so I don't find it inconvenient at all.
The car owner said that charging the car is very convenient when the charging station system has widespread coverage across the country.
- There are still some people who think that charging is not as fast as refueling. They imagine situations like having an urgent matter and then the battery runs out, they will have to wait a long time to charge while it only takes 5 minutes to refuel. What do you think about this?
In my opinion, that is the thinking of people who do not use electric cars. Of course, using electric cars will be different from gasoline cars, and electric car users will need to change their thinking.
Petrol car drivers often say that if the tank runs out, refueling is quick, while charging the battery requires waiting. However, rarely do people let their car run out of battery, and very few people let their gas tank run out. When the fuel gauge has 1 or 2 marks left, people will refuel. Therefore, running out of gas or electricity is due to poor calculation skills.
In case the battery runs out for the first time and VinFast is not familiar with it, VinFast also has a rescue policy, there will be a free tow truck to the nearest charging station. In general, the story of running out of battery and having an accident on the road is very rare, the company also has a way to handle it. Therefore, in my opinion, it is not a big problem.
Not to mention technology, including battery and charging technology, is constantly evolving. I believe that in the future, charging time will be further reduced.
- Coming back to the VF 8, besides the cost savings, what makes you feel "Ah, I've chosen the right car I need"?
The advantage of the VinFast VF 8 is its huge capacity, up to more than 402 horsepower. The great acceleration is especially good in cases where I need to overtake. The agility of the car itself is also a safety factor.
Driving the VinFast VF 8 gives me a quite different feeling compared to previous gasoline cars. The car responds quickly, accelerates smoothly and has almost no delay. It feels like, with just a little bit of gas, the car can jump forward immediately, while gasoline cars usually take a long time.
The thing that reassures me the most when driving the VF 8 is the safety system. The car has all the modern technologies such as blind spot warning, lane keeping, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control… along with a 360-degree camera, so it feels very safe.
In addition, the car's accompanying application helps me easily monitor battery status and conveniently find charging stations. In particular, one of the things I use most on the VF 8 is the virtual assistant ViVi. While driving, just say "Hey VinFast" to adjust the air conditioner, turn on music or navigate, without having to press the screen, so it's much safer.
Not only Mr. Hiep, his family and friends all think that VF 8 has comfortable space.
- Have you ever tested the VF 8's capabilities on difficult roads and were the results as you expected?
I used to drive VinFast VF 8 on mountainous roads. Only after going on these long journeys can I see how convenient electric cars are.
When going downhill, there is a situation that is easy to encounter on gasoline vehicles: "brake burnout" due to continuous braking for a long time, causing the system to overheat, leading to brake failure. Therefore, gasoline vehicle drivers need to know how to apply and release the brakes gently.
Meanwhile, electric vehicles are equipped with a regenerative braking system. When going downhill, the vehicle is compensated for the amount of energy used when going uphill. When using high-level regenerative braking, the use of the brakes is very little, so going up and downhill feels very leisurely.
- The important thing when buying a car is not only the feeling when holding the steering wheel but also to conquer family members. So how does your family evaluate the VinFast VF 8?
My family often sits in VinFast VF 8 and of course it must be comfortable for me to keep the car until now. Even my friends who sit in the car also praise the spacious and comfortable rear seats. Especially, there is no gas smoke, sitting in the car all day is not uncomfortable.
