On the afternoon of September 19, the People's Committee of Dak Lak province issued a press release regarding a number of violations in medical examination and treatment activities at the Department of Nephrology and Urology, Central Highlands General Hospital, as reported by newspapers and radio stations.
According to the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee, the incident was discovered on July 22 through an inspection by the Department of Health when evaluating the professional activities of the Central Highlands General Hospital.
Based on the inspection team's conclusion, Dak Lak Department of Health directed the Central Highlands General Hospital to correct existing shortcomings and violations and review and clarify the responsibilities of related organizations and individuals.
On August 20, the Disciplinary Council of the Central Highlands General Hospital met, reviewed and initially decided to discipline 3 doctors and 1 nurse related to the incident.
Dak Lak Department of Health and Central Highlands General Hospital have coordinated to fully and promptly provide relevant records and documents to the Dak Lak Provincial Police investigation agency to conduct the investigation in accordance with the provisions of law.

The press release stated that the Standing Committee of the Dak Lak Provincial Party Committee assigned the Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Committee to inspect when there were signs of violations by the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of the Central Highlands General Hospital and assigned the Dak Lak Provincial Police Party Committee to direct the investigation and handling of the case to ensure strictness, no forbidden areas, no exceptions and in accordance with the provisions of law.
Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee said that when there are conclusions from investigation and inspection agencies, the province will promptly inform the press.
As Dan Tri reported, on July 22, the Dak Lak Department of Health coordinated with the Central Highlands General Hospital to conduct a professional inspection at the Department of Nephrology and Urology of this hospital. Here, 480 laser lithotripsy cases were discovered to have been performed at the hospital during the period when the laser lithotripsy machine was broken and no longer in use.
Hospital leaders confirmed that they had set up an inspection team and determined that out of 480 cases, 255 patients did not use laser lithotripsy machines, but doctors still applied the price to perform surgery.
The Central Highlands General Hospital is reviewing and coordinating with Dak Lak Provincial Social Insurance to resolve payment of medical examination and treatment costs for patients who had lithotripsy while the machine was broken.
The Department of Health has transferred the case file to Dak Lak Provincial Police for investigation and clarification.
