According to Engadget , WhatsApp users can press and hold on a message to keep it in the thread. However, the person who sent the message will be notified and they will ultimately decide whether to allow the message to be kept in the conversation or not. If not, the message will disappear as usual.
New feature helps users archive self-deleting messages in WhatsApp
Additionally, a bookmark icon will appear next to saved messages. Users can access all saved messages in the Kept Messages folder, where they are organized by conversation. WhatsApp says it is rolling out the feature gradually and everyone will have access in the coming weeks.
Based on the description, it might seem like Keep in Chat would make the role of disappearing messages pointless, but in a company blog post, WhatsApp said that sometimes users need to save a message (such as a voice note or someone's address) that includes important details.
