Dong Trach Commune: Prospects from the civet farming model

QTO - In recent times, the livestock sector in Dong Trach commune (Quang Tri province) has developed in the direction of increasing value, focusing on new livestock species with high economic efficiency. In particular, civet farming is a model expected to bring high economic value, improving income for livestock households in the commune.

With the ambition of getting rich on his homeland, Mr. Nguyen Minh Hoang, Dong Trach commune, boldly invested in a dragonfly breeding model in the locality. The model was deployed from 2023, with an initial of 10 birds.

After a period of raising, by applying the correct technical processes and requirements for the development of civets, the model has brought initial success. Up to now, the total herd has 50 animals, supplying the market with meat and breeding civets. Each year, civets give birth to 1-2 litters, each litter has 2-5 animals.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Hoang, owner of the civet farming model, shared: “Raising civets is quite easy, just need to ensure the right temperature of the cage to keep the civets warm in the cold season and cool in the summer. The food for civets is mainly bananas, heads, necks, chicken wings... which are not expensive. However, each civet sold for profit is 3-4 times higher than many other pets, about 300 million/year. Hopefully in the near future, this model will be replicated in the locality.”
