Long Thanh Commune "takes off" with the super airport

This is the only locality in the country that has Long Thanh International Airport - a national super airport, one of the largest airports in Southeast Asia.

"Key" commune

On the basis of Project No. 379/DA-CP dated May 9, 2025 of the Government on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units of the new Dong Nai province in 2025, on June 16, 2025, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly passed Resolution No. 1662/NQ-UBTVQH15 on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units of Dong Nai province in 2025. Long Thanh commune was established on the basis of merging the entire area and population of Long Thanh town and 3 communes: Loc An, Binh Son, Long An , with an area of about 130km², population of more than 86.6 thousand people.

Chairman of Long Thanh Commune People's Committee Le Hoang Son shared that the locality is currently home to many of the province's largest projects, including key strategic projects such as: Long Thanh Airport, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway, high-speed railway and connecting traffic systems such as: Road 769, Le Duan, Bui Thi Xuan, Ton Duc Thang... In particular, the commune is being considered to implement a number of pilot commercial housing projects according to Resolution No. 171/2024/QH15 of the National Assembly , implementing the Free Trade Zone Project. Therefore, the workload that Long Thanh commune has to undertake is very large, especially in the fields of land acquisition, compensation, resettlement, site clearance, and preparation of clean land to attract investment.

The process of implementing projects inevitably faces difficulties, obstacles, and inadequacies in regulations. Therefore, the Commune People's Committee recommends continuing to receive attention and close direction from the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee, and relevant departments and branches, especially in institutional guidance and resource allocation.

One of the urgent tasks at present is to organize and operate the new government apparatus in a stable, synchronous and effective manner. In particular, the arrangement and allocation of personnel, facilities, offices, especially the Commune Administrative Service Center are given top priority.

“We measure people’s satisfaction, promote technology application, transparent processes, and dedicated service. The Commune Administrative Service Center must be a place where people can clearly feel the companionship and closeness of the government,” Mr. Le Hoang Son emphasized.

Expected to become the nucleus of an airport city

With its special location and strategic role, Long Thanh commune is oriented to develop into a modern satellite city, a trade - service - logistics center directly serving Long Thanh Airport.

In Long Thanh commune, Long Thanh Airport Project has a planned area of over 5 thousand hectares, total investment capital of about 16 billion USD, capacity after 2050 up to 100 million passengers/year and 5 million tons of cargo. This will be a major aviation transit center of the region, playing the role of connecting international and domestic, opening up breakthrough development opportunities for the key economic region of the South.

Along with the airport, another large-scale project is preparing to be implemented, the Dong Nai Free Trade Zone, integrating functions: high-tech industrial production, logistics, financial services, trade and innovation.

At the workshop held on June 27, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Vo Tan Duc said that this free trade zone will connect with Cai Mep Ha Free Trade Zone (Ho Chi Minh City) to form a super inter-regional free trade zone, with outstanding policy mechanisms to enhance international competitiveness.

With specific policy groups and mechanisms being proposed for approval by the Central Government, Dong Nai Free Trade Zone is expected to become a center of high-tech industry, logistics, innovation and international finance. To realize this project, the role of Long Thanh commune government is indispensable.

In addition to major projects, the commune also focuses on synchronous investment in essential infrastructure items such as housing, schools, medical facilities, culture, water supply and drainage, trade and services... in a modern and sustainable direction. Focus on state management in the fields of land, construction, and environment. Urban development, ecological agriculture and service planning are reviewed to be consistent with the general development orientation of the new commune and the whole province.

The establishment of Long Thanh commune is not a merger of the maps of 4 administrative units, but a comprehensive restructuring of the organization, apparatus and development space. The task is not to stop at reorganizing the government, but to create a land of sufficient stature to "take off" with Long Thanh Airport.

With the political and administrative foundation, the resonance of national mega projects and the development orientation from the province, Long Thanh commune is facing the opportunity to break through. It is believed that in the near future, this land will become the development nucleus of a modern, dynamic airport city and deeply integrated into the global economic chain.
