Remove the self-opened path through the railway line from Da Lat station to Trai Mat

On July 24, Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee issued a plan to implement the removal of self-opened paths across the railway and ensure a safe railway traffic corridor from Da Lat station to Trai Mat.

The plan will be implemented in 3 years, from 2023 to 2025. In the immediate future, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Transport and Da Lat City to carry out propaganda, dissemination and education of laws on railway traffic safety for people living along both sides of the railway line from Da Lat station to Trai Mat.

In 2023, the competent authority will review the land area in the railway traffic safety corridor that has granted land use right certificates to organizations and individuals; develop a land recovery plan... Coordinate with the railway management agencies from Da Lat station to Trai Mat to establish a management file for railway land and railway safety corridor land.

At the same time, plans were made to build level crossings at four locations and build four fences separating the railway and the road to eliminate self-opened paths, ensuring order and safety of railway traffic.

In 2024, carry out the marking of land boundaries for railways in the field to hand over to local management, complete the plan and carry out compensation and support for land and works within the railway safety corridor.

Enforce the clearance of re-encroached works and illegal constructions on reclaimed land or violating railway safety corridors; strictly and thoroughly handle organizations and individuals who illegally encroach and use railway safety corridors.

The railway line from Da Lat station to Trai Mat (Ward 12, Da Lat City) is the remaining section of the cog railway line from Phan Rang - Thap Cham City ( Ninh Thuan ) to Da Lat, built by the French from 1908 to 1932, completed and put into operation. The entire line has a total length of nearly 84 km, including 16 km of cog railway, 12 stations, and 5 underpasses.

However, after 1975, almost all the rails and sleepers on this railway line were removed. Currently, only the Trai Mat - Da Lat section, about 7 km long, remains for tourism purposes.

In 2015, the Prime Minister approved adjustments to the master plan for the development of Vietnam's railway transport until 2020, with a vision to 2030; including the policy of restoring the Thap Cham - Da Lat cog railway line.
