According to data from the Japan Electrical Appliance Manufacturers Association, air conditioner shipments reached 1,306,000 units in July, up 18% from the same period last year. This is the fourth consecutive month of sales growth, indicating growing demand from consumers.

The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the average temperature in April 2024 reached a record high in areas such as Hokkaido and Tokai prefectures. In particular, July 2024 became the hottest month since records began in 1898. This increase in temperature will not only affect consumer habits but also boost the demand for air conditioners.

Japanese people, known for their frugal habits, are looking for energy-saving products to reduce their electricity bills. According to manufacturers, energy-saving air conditioners are becoming a priority choice. Daikin Industries' Urusara X series, which features automatic energy saving capabilities, is attracting great interest from consumers. Similarly, Fujitsu General has also recorded strong sales of its Nocria W series, which meets the government 's new energy-saving standards.

To encourage consumers to purchase energy-saving appliances, local governments have implemented various subsidy programs. This has not only increased air conditioner sales but also contributed to reducing electricity consumption in households. Currently, air conditioners account for about 30% of total household electricity consumption in Japan, so the use of energy-saving products is essential.

In the context of increasing demand, manufacturers are also constantly innovating and developing products. Mitsubishi Electric is preparing to launch a new product line under the brand name “Kirigamine” in October 2024, with the ability to save energy when cooling and heating. This product also has an intelligent feature that automatically adjusts the temperature based on the user’s heart rate, a significant step forward in air conditioning technology.

Demand for air conditioners in Japan is increasing sharply due to the impact of record-breaking hot weather. At the same time, the trend of consuming energy-saving products is also being promoted, thanks to support from the government and technological innovation from manufacturers. While households look for effective solutions to reduce electricity bills, the air conditioner market promises to continue to grow in the coming time.
