Conflict in the Middle East, Ukraine could escalate into World War 3

In an online discussion on October 23, American billionaire Elon Musk warned that conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine "could escalate into World War 3".

So he called on the US to improve relations with Russia and persuade Ukraine to join a ceasefire with Moscow. "We need to achieve peace in Ukraine and I think we need to restore normal relations with Russia," he said.

Mr Musk said US policy has forced Russia to "ally with Iran and China" and that relationship could disadvantage the West in a global conflict.

According to Mr. Musk, a fierce confrontation with China and Russia would not be beneficial for the US, because Russia with its abundant raw materials and China with its strong industrial potential "are a formidable combination".

Mr Musk suggested US policy should be to "avoid World War III" and prevent "regional conflicts from quickly becoming global conflicts".

Mr. Musk said that the war between Moscow and Kiev is at a stalemate and the US needs to find a way to restore peace to Ukraine.

Mr Musk said there appeared to be no anti-Russian uprising in the “Russian-speaking regions of Ukraine” controlled by Moscow. He suggested that the current lines of control between the two sides could be transformed into “a ceasefire line or a permanent line”.

Mr Musk believes that "a ceasefire is possible because it makes no sense to force regions that supposedly want to be part of Russia to become part of Ukraine." He said that eastern Ukraine and Crimea seem to "really want to be part of Russia."

The American billionaire does not understand why soldiers from both countries are dying every day. According to him, Russia will not withdraw from the territories it controls and Ukraine will find it difficult to successfully counterattack with a smaller army, so a ceasefire is the "best option for the Ukrainian people".

Ukraine "counterattacks"

Mykhailo Podoliak, Advisor to the Chief of Staff of the President of Ukraine, believes that the world's refusal to support Ukraine will not end the war with Russia, but will cause conflicts around the world and will be the end of international law, leading to the collapse of the international economy .

According to Mr. Podoliak, Mr. Musk was "gravely mistaken" in believing that if Ukraine gave in to Russia, that would end the war and Kiev would achieve lasting peace.

Ukrainian officials say that if Kiev cedes territory, this will lead to a series of unfavorable scenarios where international rules are not followed and could lead to wars on other continents in which American citizens will have to participate.

Russia has not commented on Mr Musk's statements.

Mr Musk and Ukraine had a tense relationship in October 2022 when he posted a peace proposal for Ukraine, suggesting Kiev recognize Russia’s annexation of Crimea and remain neutral by not joining NATO. Ukrainian officials strongly criticized Mr Musk at the time.
