Warm "Union Meal" in 2025

To celebrate the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025) and the 96th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union (July 28, 1929 - July 28, 2025), the Standing Committee of the Phu Tho Provincial Labor Confederation has deployed instructions for organizing the "Trade Union Meal" in 2025 in the spirit of the direction of the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. This is an activity of profound practical and humane significance, contributing to creating a highlight in the work of caring for workers' lives, while strengthening the close relationship between union members, trade union organizations and enterprises.

The 2025 “Union Meal” is widely deployed at grassroots unions across Phu Tho province. According to the plan, the Program will be deployed from July 20 to September 2, 2025. Each meal will have an added value from the union's financial resources, up to 50,000 VND/person, not to mention other socialized sources. This is not a large number but contains practical concern for workers.

At noon in July, at the cafeteria of Optrontec Vina Co., Ltd., Ba Thien II Industrial Park, Binh Nguyen Commune, nearly 3,500 workers sat in rows of tables, shaking hands, talking and laughing happily. The atmosphere of that meal was very different from usual. Next to the neat meal tray, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tham was moved: "Looking at this neat meal, we really feel warm inside. Not only because it tastes better, but because we feel truly cared for."

Besides, Mr. Nguyen Van Bay said that this was the first time in three years of working in the industrial park that he had attended such a cozy collective meal. “The atmosphere today was as joyful as a festival. Usually, workers only care about finishing their meal to return to their shift, and when they are too tired, they don’t want to talk. But today, there were company leaders, union members coming to ask and congratulate, and even brothers from other workshops sitting together to eat, so we naturally felt very close.”

Continuing in that series of activities, the lunch on July 28 of CNCTech Group Joint Stock Company, Thang Long Vinh Phuc Industrial Park (Binh Nguyen Commune) was equally bustling. The atmosphere of the meal was like a big reunion, when workers from different workshops sat together at the same table, chatting animatedly. People who usually only knew each other through hasty nods in the hallway now chatted and asked about work, about their hometown, about their plans for this Tet holiday so they could go home together on the same bus.

Lunch on July 28 of CNCTech Group Joint Stock Company, Thang Long Vinh Phuc Industrial Park (Binh Nguyen Commune) was more bustling than usual.

Mr. Tran Van Hung, a worker at a precision mechanical workshop, smiled brightly: "I didn't expect that just one meal would make me feel so much closer to the company. There are some guys from the technical department who used to have little interaction with each other, now sitting at the same table and chatting animatedly. We even made an appointment to play soccer on the weekend."

At each such meal, there is no need for long speeches or flashy slogans. Just a few sincere greetings from union officials, the presence of business representatives and grateful looks from workers are enough to make the atmosphere warm and full of humanity.

Leaders of the provincial Labor Federation visited and encouraged workers at the meal.

Although we know that a meal cannot solve all the daily hardships of workers, it is in those simple moments that affection and sharing are multiplied, becoming an invisible thread connecting workers and businesses, between trade unions and workers. "Trade Union Meal" has spread a clear message: Workers are not alone in their journey to make a living, but always have trade unions by their side to accompany, listen and care.

The leader of the Phu Tho Provincial Federation of Labor said: “We determined that this is not a formal activity but an opportunity to take care of workers in the most practical ways. Through meals, the grassroots union has the opportunity to grasp the thoughts and aspirations, and build trust among union members. Besides, it also creates motivation for businesses to pay more attention to the quality of meals and the welfare of workers.”

It is expected that by the end of August, hundreds of grassroots unions in Phu Tho province will organize “Union Meals” with tens of thousands of workers benefiting. Although the scale of each place is different, the biggest common point is solidarity – something that is becoming increasingly valuable in the context of a volatile labor market and workers need a solid support more than ever.

With these meanings, “Union Meal” continues to become a beautiful, vivid image of companionship, understanding and spreading social responsibility. From a simple meal but full of love, it strengthens the trust of workers in the union organization, in the sustainability of the enterprise and the prosperous development of the country in the new era.
