Tha La and Tra Su sluices are opened to control floods.
This is an important solution to control floods, protect production, help farmers easily harvest summer-autumn rice and plant autumn-winter rice in 2025 for the Long Xuyen quadrangle - a key production sub-region of the Mekong Delta. Currently, the summer-autumn rice area in the region has basically been harvested, so the flood discharge will not cause any impact. Meanwhile, in this year's autumn-winter crop, An Giang aims to sow 261,500 hectares, with an expected average yield of 6.2 tons/hectare. The whole province has sown more than 198,000 hectares, reaching more than 75% of the plan.
The two Tha La and Tra Su sluices are key irrigation works that help regulate floods from upstream to the West Sea; create conditions for bringing alluvium from the Hau River to improve fields; provide water for irrigation of about 17,500 hectares of natural land in the dry season; develop waterway and road transport; control floods in the Long Xuyen quadrangle with a natural area of more than 498,100 hectares in An Giang province and Can Tho city (the service area of An Giang province alone is 482,963 hectares).
According to An Giang Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited, Tha La and Tra Su sluices are operated by modern hydraulic lifting and lowering of valve gates, automatic monitoring system, and image surveillance camera system; the sluice gates operate separately, convenient for operation.
The operation of closing the Tha La and Tra Su sluice gates was carried out on time, ensuring safety, following procedures and meeting technical requirements. The organization of traffic regulation and notification to the people was carried out well, security and order were maintained throughout the sluice gate closing process, ensuring safety and efficiency.
