On September 23, Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital ( Quang Ninh ) announced that doctors here had just performed surgery on a case of intestinal obstruction caused by 3 large food particles measuring 5x6cm.

Eating too much alcohol caused a patient to be hospitalized for surgery.

Accordingly, a female patient named D.TC (37 years old, residing in Tan Viet, Dong Trieu, Quang Ninh) was hospitalized with abdominal cramps around the navel accompanied by constipation. CT scan and gastroscopy images revealed intestinal obstruction due to food debris. About 1-2 weeks ago, Ms. C. ate about 5 persimmons at the same time when she was hungry.

It took more than 1 hour of endoscopy for the doctors here to remove 2 food particles from the stomach and 1 particle from the small intestine of the patient.

Physician Bui Dac Sang (Vietnam Institute of Science and Technology, Hanoi Oriental Medicine Association) said that persimmons are a specialty of autumn, used to treat diarrhea or coughs with phlegm. However, persimmons contain a lot of tannins so they must be soaked carefully and should not be eaten when hungry, especially the elderly and children.

According to doctors, food lumps are formed due to the accumulation of indigestible solids. In particular, eating a lot of persimmons when hungry is one of the causes of food lumps. This fruit has a sticky resin that creates large food lumps that are very difficult to digest.

From the above case, doctors recommend that people need to be careful, especially those who have had a partial gastrectomy, have oral diseases that reduce chewing function, have the habit of eating too fast, do not eat unripe fruits with astringent taste (persimmons, figs, guava) and foods high in fiber...
