According to Bloomberg, Apple sent an internal email inviting selected employees at its Cupertino headquarters (USA) to participate in the research, codenamed Project Atlas. The research is said to have started in late October, with Apple seeking to collect employee feedback on the types of smart glasses currently on the market.
The study was conducted by the Product Systems Quality team, which is part of Apple's hardware engineering division. The email says that it's important for Apple to test and develop products that everyone can love, which is why the company is looking for participants in an upcoming user study of its current-market smart glasses.
Many previous rumors have confirmed that Apple will launch its smart glasses in 2027. In February this year, the 'bitten apple' also registered a patent describing a dual-axis hinge mechanism, which mentioned several times about a new type of glasses. Now other technology corporations are also interested in smart glasses, recently Meta launched glasses called Orion with the interface and feel of a normal pair of glasses.
Apple's new smart glasses will be cheaper than Vision Pro

This is also a reasonable strategy when Apple needs feedback from employees and analyzes potential competitors in the market. Previously with Vision Pro, 'apple' is said to have conducted a survey of virtual reality headsets in the market.
With the Vision Pro headset, Apple could update the all-new M5 chip for a 2025 release, while the low-cost version will be delayed until 2027. Apple CEO Tim Cook has said the current Vision Pro is an early product, suggesting the company has plans for an augmented reality headset in the future, possibly even smart glasses.
