Dan Buettner is an American longevity researcher and speaker. He revealed that meditation can prolong your life more than healthy eating or exercise. Therefore, prayer and meditation can help people reduce physical and mental stress, thereby supporting longevity.

“Only about 20% of a person's lifespan is determined by genetics,” Buettner told The Daily Signal . “If you choose a healthy lifestyle, the average person can expect to live another 12 years.”
Buettner looked at where in the world life expectancy is highest. Researchers interviewed 263 American centenarians and found that almost everyone chose a spiritual lifestyle. Regular meditation can add 7 years to the average American's life expectancy, and 14 years to African Americans'.
“ For a 20-year-old, switching from a standard American diet to a Blue Zone diet can add about 10 years to their life expectancy, and for a 60-year-old, it's even more valuable,” Buettner says.
The Blue Zones diet is characterized by a high intake of vegetables, fruits, grains, and legumes. In addition, simple forms of exercise can also prolong life. Specifically, if you have not done any physical activity all your life, just walking 20 minutes a day can increase your life expectancy by 3 years.
Buettner says strong family ties also help prolong life. Centenarians agree that family comes first, staying close to aging parents, being happy with their spouse, and investing in their children. People with strong family ties live two to six years longer than those without.
A spiritual lifestyle can add seven to 14 years to your life, possibly because it reduces stress. Buettner says the key to longevity is reducing physical and mental stress. Activities like meditation, or simply expressing gratitude for small things, can help people reduce stress, which in turn reduces inflammation in the body.
