On June 6, news from Can Tho Children's Hospital said that they had just successfully performed surgery to reattach a child's earlobe that was severed due to a traffic accident.

Previously, a girl named D.TNT (12 years old, living in Hau Giang province) was admitted to the emergency room with her right earlobe severed, the wound was bleeding profusely, the edges were jagged, the ear cartilage was missing and exposed, and there was a lot of dirt and sand stuck to it, which could cause infection.

After examination, the doctor evaluated and temporarily stopped the bleeding from the wound. The child was scheduled for ear reconstruction surgery to ensure the aesthetics and sound wave reception function of the ear.

The surgical team thoroughly washed away dirt stuck in the wound, cut away crushed cartilage and mangled tissue to recreate and reconstruct the child's ear.

After surgery, the girl's earlobes were rosy and healed after the stitches were removed, and the earlobes' structure returned almost to their original state.

Dr. Vo Thi Thuy Linh, Head of Department 3CK, Can Tho Children's Hospital, said that earlobe reconstruction is a complex and difficult surgery to perform, because the earlobe has a very special histological structure, a very thin layer of skin covering the cartilage frame, with a concave and curved shape in the middle.
