Adding computer science and AI to the university preparatory program

The Ministry of Education and Training has just issued Circular 20/2025, regulating the new university preparatory program. Notably, students will study additional computer science subjects, increase practice and be oriented to apply AI in each subject.

Accordingly, the 2025-2026 school year will begin implementing the new university preparatory training program, built on the basis of the 2018 general education program.

Specifically, pre-university students are provided with cultural knowledge in three subjects according to the subject combination used for admission to pre-university schools (subject 1, subject 2, subject 3 including the following subjects: math, literature, English, history, geography, physics, chemistry, biology, economic and legal education, information technology, technology) and English, information technology (in which information technology is included as a cultural knowledge subject).

The Circular stipulates that for subject combinations that include both math and literature, the math study time is 8 periods/week, and the literature study time is 7 periods/week. At the same time, practice and experiment content for natural science subjects will be enhanced, information technology will be exploited, and students will be oriented in exploiting and using AI technology in each subject.

The duration of the preparatory training is one academic year. The principal of the preparatory school decides on the academic year plan to ensure 28 weeks of actual study, with the remaining time for review, final exams and other activities.

The program has a flexible structure with about 70% of content and duration required; 30% of content and duration are proactively developed by the school to suit the needs of students and the conditions of the school.

In addition to consolidating and systematizing general knowledge, the program also includes advanced content to help students prepare for university life. This is considered a solution to help narrow the gap in educational quality between regions, while also creating motivation to innovate teaching and learning methods in preparatory schools.
