Since September 3, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has organized a program to rotate specialist doctors to work in Con Dao. Since its implementation, the number of medical examinations has increased by 67% compared to August 2025; the number of inpatient treatments has increased by 75%; the hospital bed capacity has increased by 72%. Notably, specialist doctors have coordinated to successfully perform 8 surgeries, including many complicated cases performed for the first time in Con Dao, reducing the need to transfer patients to the mainland.

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Dao Hong Lan acknowledged and praised the efforts of the leadership, staff, and doctors of the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center. The Minister assessed that the initial effectiveness of the specialist doctor rotation model is a practical solution, suitable for the actual conditions of Con Dao, and at the same time contributes to narrowing the gap in medical quality between the mainland and the islands.

The Minister requested the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health to continue to closely coordinate and maintain specialist doctor rotation activities; increase technology transfer and on-site staff training to improve the quality of local healthcare.

With any difficulties or problems, the Ministry of Health will coordinate with Ho Chi Minh City to resolve them or report to competent authorities for consideration, in order to ensure health care for officers, soldiers and people on remote islands.
