On September 26, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health held a conference to announce the results of implementing electronic medical records and standardizing the city's health sector's data warehouse. Comrade Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; Comrade Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee attended the conference.
This is an important milestone in the digital transformation journey of the healthcare sector, contributing to modernizing management, reducing administrative procedures and improving the quality of medical examination and treatment for people.
Ho Chi Minh City's health system currently has 164 hospitals, 38 regional health centers, 168 commune health stations and 296 stations, and 10,627 clinics.
Up to now, Ho Chi Minh City has recorded 153/164 hospitals that have deployed electronic medical records, reaching a rate of more than 93% of the entire system. Of which, the city's public hospital sector has achieved a rate of 100% with 60/60 hospitals having put electronic medical records into operation according to the roadmap; 13/14 hospitals under ministries and branches have deployed. In the non-public sector, currently 80/90 hospitals have deployed electronic medical records, accounting for more than 89%.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, if considering the scope of application, the rate of hospitals implementing electronic medical records throughout the hospital is high, of which 64% of public hospitals and 65% of private hospitals have completed it at the entire hospital scale. In terms of investment form, most hospitals choose to hire IT services to optimize costs.
Electronic medical records bring many practical benefits such as shortening medical examination and treatment time, reducing costs and administrative paperwork, increasing transparency in management and improving patient experience.
However, hospitals are still facing many difficulties and problems, requiring practical policies and solutions to help resolve the gap in technology infrastructure between facilities and supplement IT human resources. At the same time, the cost of operating electronic medical records needs to be calculated correctly and fully into hospital fees soon.
The Ho Chi Minh City health sector said it will continue to expand the deployment of electronic medical records to all medical examination and treatment facilities; standardize and perfect the centralized medical data warehouse; ensure safety - security - connectivity, promote the application of artificial intelligence and big data analysis in disease forecasting; scientific research and medical administration. From there, a smart medical ecosystem will be gradually formed to serve the goal of building a smart, modern and livable city.
