One Direction singer Liam Payne dies after falling from third floor hotel in Argentina

On October 16, the director of the Argentine Emergency Medical Care System (SAME), Alberto Crescenti, announced that famous singer Liam Payne, former member of the band One Direction, died after falling from the third floor of a hotel in the capital Buenos Aires.

Argentine police sources also said they received a call from the hotel where the 31-year-old British singer-songwriter was staying about the incident. Liam Payne stayed at this hotel alone since October 13.

According to Reuters, the accident site was a hotel in the Palermo area of Buenos Aires.

Buenos Aires police said they initially received a report from the hotel about "an aggressive man, suspected of being drunk or under the influence of drugs".

Hotel management confirmed they heard a loud noise in the grounds behind the building. When police arrived, they found a man had fallen from his room's balcony.

Shortly after, local rescue forces confirmed the death of singer Liam. MTV quickly wrote on social network X:

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Liam Payne today. During this difficult time, our hearts go out to his family, loved ones and fans."

Reuters recorded at the scene a large crowd gathered around the hotel, including many fans who came to see off their idol.

Liam arrived in Buenos Aires earlier this month to attend a concert by former One Direction member Niall Horan.

Before his death, the male singer had publicly stated many times that he struggled with addiction and had to go to a rehabilitation center for treatment.

Just hours before the accident, early on October 16, Liam shared a video on Snapchat about his time in Argentina.

He spoke enthusiastically about his experiences horse riding, playing polo and looking forward to going home to his dog. "Today is a beautiful day in Argentina," the singer shared just hours before his death.

Liam's record label Republic Records and parent company Universal have yet to comment on the accident.

Liam Payne made his debut as a singer when he auditioned for the UK television show X-Factor in 2008.

After being eliminated as a solo singer, he auditioned again in 2010 and was put into a group with four other contestants to form One Direction.
