Schools ready for online learning, postpone teaching schedules during storms

(Dan Tri) - The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City requires schools in the area to prepare online learning plans and plans to temporarily postpone school schedules during complicated stormy days.

The above requirement was clearly stated by the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City in the Guidelines for proactively responding to storms and floods issued on September 29.

According to the Department of Education and Training, currently in the rainy season, there are many strong storms with complex developments and the possibility of affecting the Ho Chi Minh City area. Heavy rain caused by storms has a very high risk of flash floods, landslides and widespread flooding, especially in areas with steep terrain and weak soil.

To proactively respond, minimize damage, and ensure the safety of people and property at educational institutions in the city, the Department of Education and Training recommends that school principals closely monitor the developments of storms and floods, maintain regular contact with authorities and local rescue forces to promptly respond in case of incidents.

Units need to urgently develop plans to repair and reinforce structures at risk of being unsafe, coordinate with specialized units to trim trees inside schools, check drainage systems and power grids, to ensure the safety of students, teachers and administrators before storms and floods occur.

In addition, it is necessary to prepare plans to evacuate students and teachers to safe places; move documents and equipment to safe places before storms and floods. Actively coordinate with local authorities to receive support in terms of expertise, materials and equipment when situations arise.

The Department also requires schools to prepare online learning plans and plans to postpone school schedules during complicated stormy days (if any).

Actively coordinate with the local Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue to organize propaganda and training for teachers and students on disaster response skills, first aid and safety in emergency situations; direct subject groups to organize specialized and extracurricular activities for students and disaster prevention.
