Landscape renovation of Saigon riverbank in Thu Thiem urban area

According to this proposal, the riverbank to be renovated is about 830 m long, from Ba Son bridge to the roof of Thu Thiem tunnel (Thu Duc city), opposite Bach Dang wharf park (district 1). The renovation includes cleaning and creating ventilation for the above river section with a width of about 50 m towards the shore. At the alluvial and semi-flooded areas, floating rafts will be installed to grow aquatic plants.

The 200m section in front of the church to the roof of the Thu Thiem tunnel is calculated to utilize construction barriers combined with planting bamboo, creating a green wall along the river bank. As for the area in front of the Thu Thiem church, it is expected to be arranged with LED screens for cheering, propaganda, and creating light at night.

The Saigon River bank area on the Thu Thiem side still has many vacant lots.

At the roof of Thu Thiem tunnel, there will also be a number of decorative structures such as: vertical swing, pedestrian bridge, landscape arch frame... In addition, the existing piers in the above area will also be upgraded and mobile services will be developed to meet the needs of the people, combined with management and maintenance.

The Department of Planning and Architecture aims to complete the implementation of the above works before the 2024 New Year, with expected funding from socialization.

Through research, the proposed area for renovation in Thu Thiem Urban Area is planned to be a square and a waterfront park but has not yet been implemented. This area is polluted by waste left by people coming to play.

Previously, the city leaders also assigned Thu Duc City to coordinate with departments and branches to research and propose plans to renovate and ensure the correlation of architecture and landscape on both sides of the Saigon River, between the Thu Thiem park square and Bach Dang wharf. This is also required to be linked to the detailed 1/500 planning of Bach Dang wharf area that the city is studying.
