In the 2024-2025 school year, Can Tho City has nearly 122,000 children and nearly 544,000 students. If calculated according to the assigned staff, the number of teachers (GV) lacking is 1,993. Specifically, preschool level lacks 634 teachers, primary level lacks 706 teachers, secondary level lacks 380 teachers, high school level lacks 273 teachers.
According to the teacher quota, the number of teachers still lacking is 2,519 (preschool level is short of 1,026 teachers, primary level is short of 610 teachers, secondary level is short of 438 teachers, high school level is short of 445 teachers). This has caused many difficulties in preparation and teaching before the 2025-2026 school year.
Faced with this situation, the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City has directed educational institutions to review data on children and students after the end of enrollment for the first grades of the 2025-2026 school year, and resolve school transfers during the summer... Based on that data, the department will coordinate with relevant departments and branches to advise competent authorities to adjust the payroll and number of employees to meet the requirements and tasks of the school year for educational institutions.
Mr. Lam added that on July 24, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Circular No. 15, guiding the functions, tasks and powers of the Department of Education and Training under the People's Committee of the province and centrally-run city; the Department of Culture and Society under the People's Committee of communes and wards of special zones under the province and centrally-run city in the field of education and training.
"When Circular 15 has a legal basis, the department will soon connect with the People's Committee at the commune level to support and guide in recruiting and transferring teachers according to their functions and tasks," said Mr. Lam.
After the arrangement and merger of the province, the number of civil servants assigned to the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City is 161 (146 official positions and 15 positions waiting for recruitment). The number of employees assigned to the industry is 42,076, of which 41,388 are official positions and 688 are waiting for recruitment.
