Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway 'racing' for progress, construction without September 2nd holiday

TPO - During the National Day holiday, at the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway construction sites, thousands of engineers, workers and hundreds of pieces of equipment are still working continuously, determined to keep up with the schedule.

The My Thuan Project Management Board (Ministry of Construction) - the investor of the Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway Project - said that up to now, the entire site clearance for the project has been completed and handed over to the construction contractor. Currently, the first section of the Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway project (the intersection of Nam Song Hau National Highway, Can Tho) is basically completed. The construction volume of the Can Tho - Hau Giang section has reached 76%, and the disbursement of this year's capital plan has reached more than 31% (more than 573 billion VND).

The Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway is expected to be completed next December. The route is more than 37.6km long, with a total investment of more than VND10,370 billion.

The entire Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway construction site maintained the construction pace throughout the National Day holiday on September 2, ensuring 3 shifts and 4 crews to complete the project on time on December 19.

Mr. Dang Ngoc Minh - Director of Can Tho - Hau Giang Expressway Project, My Thuan Project Management Board - said that to maintain the project's progress, during the National Day holiday on September 2, contractors still organized to work during the holiday at the construction site. Units focused on overtime, increased shifts, increased machinery, equipment, and personnel to carry out unloading and road surface foundation construction during the holiday.

According to Mr. Minh, the construction site maintains 50 construction teams (20 bridge construction teams, 28 main route construction teams, 2 connecting route construction teams), with a total of 900 personnel and more than 320 machines and equipment of all kinds.

Currently, contractors are focusing on unloading, curbing, compacting crushed stone and asphalt concrete. It is expected that from now until the end of October, the entire main route will be loaded, ensuring the remaining items are completed in time for construction in December.

Currently, the weather in the West is still rainy season, but the number of favorable sunny days has increased, so contractors are focusing on machinery and human resources to take advantage of favorable weather to construct, especially the asphalt part which requires construction in clear weather.

Mr. Tran Van Thi - Director of My Thuan Project Management Board, project investor - said that during the National Day holiday on September 2, the investor still assigned personnel to supervise the construction contractors, ensuring that the contractors maintained personnel and construction machinery continuously, promptly resolving problems and arising issues. For construction contractors and supervisors, the investor required that they maintain full personnel and machinery, and work throughout the holiday as usual to ensure progress.

According to Mr. Tran Van Thi - Director of My Thuan Project Management Board, the investor requires contractors to ensure the regime for engineers and construction workers on holidays, in accordance with the provisions of labor law, so that they can work with peace of mind, maintain the progress of the project, and take advantage of favorable weather conditions. "Although the pressure on progress is very high to complete the Can Tho - Hau Giang expressway section by December, contributing to the goal of having 3,000km of expressway by the end of this year, the work of quality and labor safety must be absolutely complied with, not letting progress affect quality and aesthetics", Mr. Thi said.

The Hau Giang - Ca Mau expressway section is more than 73km long and the connecting route is 16.6km long, with a total investment of more than 17,152 billion VND. Currently, the project has reached 70% of its output, disbursed 1,548 billion VND (more than 30%) of this year's capital plan. During the holiday, the Hau Giang - Ca Mau expressway construction site maintained 89 construction sites with more than 1,549 personnel, and 913 pieces of equipment and machinery deployed around the clock.

The Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway project is over 110 km long, part of the North - South Eastern Expressway, divided into two component projects: Can Tho - Hau Giang section and Hau Giang - Ca Mau section.
