Urgently "renovating" 3.1 km of National Highway 1 at the southern gateway of Ha Tinh

(Baohatinh.vn) - Contractors are focusing on repairing 3.1 km of National Highway 1 in Ha Tinh, which has a damaged and degraded cement concrete surface, replacing it with asphalt concrete.

Taking advantage of the favorable weather in mid-September, Ngoc Minh Construction and Trading Joint Stock Company - UDIC mobilized many workers, machines and equipment to carry out the work of scraping the cement concrete road surface on National Highway 1 near Cao Bridge in Ky Thu Commune, former Ky Anh District, now Ky Khang Commune, Ha Tinh Province.

From the old cement concrete base, according to the height of the tray foot, the surface of National Highway 1 will be renovated and upgraded with 1 base layer and 2 layers of asphalt concrete (layer C19 and layer C16).

National Highway 1, from the intersection with Ky Anh bypass to the section near the intersection with Nguyen Thi Bich Chau Street, in Ky Thu Commune, former Ky Anh District, now Ky Khang Commune, has a length of 3.1 km. Most of the road surface in this section was built with cement concrete structure because it used to be frequently flooded during the rainy season. After many years of investing in the drainage system, the flooding situation has almost been resolved.

With the increasing traffic volume every year, the 3.1 km long National Highway 1 in Ky Khang commune is increasingly damaged and seriously degraded. Although the management unit has carried out regular maintenance and repair work, the damage still recurs. The local government and people have repeatedly requested competent authorities to soon invest in upgrading this section of the road to ensure traffic safety.

Faced with this reality, the Vietnam Road Administration has implemented a project to periodically repair a number of bridges and roads on National Highway 1 through Ha Tinh province, including a 3.1 km section through Ky Khang commune with a total investment of 33 billion VND, with Project Management Board 4 as the investor and Ngoc Minh Construction and Trading Joint Stock Company - UDIC as the contractor.

Engineer Nguyen Minh Thinh - Commander of Ngoc Minh Construction and Trading Joint Stock Company said: Since the beginning of August, the unit has gathered machinery and equipment, built camps, and tested input materials to implement the construction.

Despite the impact of continuous rainy weather, the contractor has now resurfaced the asphalt concrete area at the intersection of National Highway 1 with the Ky Anh bypass.

For sections with cement concrete pavement, severely damaged areas will be chiseled out and patched with a base layer, before being covered with two layers of asphalt concrete.

Compared with the old cement concrete roadbed, after repair and upgrading, the National Highway 1 road surface with asphalt concrete will be 40 - 60 cm higher than the old road surface.

The contractor is taking advantage of the sunny weather to speed up the construction progress. This unit hopes to lay the asphalt concrete layers in 1 month, before completing the contract in 2025.

Traffic safety measures are fully deployed by the contractor on the section of National Highway 1 that is both in operation and under construction.
