Cutting ties with China is almost impossible.

On July 7, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen affirmed that severing relations between the US and Chinese economies is “almost impossible” and would destabilize global markets.

Speaking at a meeting with US business representatives organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Beijing, Ms. Yellen emphasized: "Washington does not seek to completely separate our two economies. Severing relations between the two largest economies in the world would destabilize the global economy and would be almost impossible."

According to a US Treasury official, on the morning of July 7, Ms. Yellen had “an important conversation” with former Chinese Vice Premier Liu He and Central Bank Governor Yi Gang. The two sides discussed the global economic outlook, as well as the economic prospects of each country.

That same afternoon, Ms. Yellen will meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to discuss economic relations, raise concerns and seek opportunities for cooperation.

On July 6, the US Treasury Secretary arrived in Beijing, beginning a visit to China to improve bilateral relations amid economic disagreements between the two countries.

This is Ms. Yellen's first visit to China as US Treasury Secretary. She is also the second high-ranking US official to visit China in recent times, following Secretary of State Antony Blinken's visit last month.
