TPO - After more than 2 years of construction, the Hung Duc bridge over the Lam River connecting Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces on the North-South Expressway is gradually being completed. The bridge is expected to be closed in the next few days and will be completed by the end of April 2024.

After 2 years of construction, the bridge is now nearly completed. To date, the construction volume has reached 95%. Hung Duc Bridge is expected to be closed in the next few days and completed before April 30.

According to the design, Hung Duc Bridge has a total of 90 spans. Of which, the Lam River overpass consists of 5 spans, constructed using cantilever bridge technology with a large span of up to 120m. The width of the bridge is 17.5m with 4 lanes, with a hard median strip in the middle.

The overpass over Lam River is 510m long, followed by the overpass over La Giang River (Ha Tinh) which is 147m long. In addition, on the Ha Tinh side, there is more than 2.2km of road leading to the bridge designed as a viaduct instead of a road.

Engineer Nguyen Quang Trung (in charge of Hung Duc Bridge of Cienco 4 Group Joint Stock Company) - said that the most difficult part in the construction of Hung Duc Bridge is the pile driving stage in the middle of Lam River. Each bridge pier is driven with 22 piles, with a depth of 50m.

The construction of the foundation for the Lam River pier also faced difficulties when the Lam River water level rose erratically. Workers had to work quickly to avoid the flood season.

"There are two more connection points on the Lam River to complete, the bridge will probably be closed in the next few days," said engineer Nguyen Quang Trung.

In Ha Tinh province, a more than 2.2km long approach bridge has been completed.

In recent days, Hung Duc bridge construction companies have been urgently mobilizing machinery and workers to complete the bridge on schedule.

At the junction between the spans on the river, workers are doing the final steps to pour concrete to close the bridge in the next few days.

In addition to focusing on construction at the remaining connection points on the river, workers of Hung Duc bridge construction companies also cleaned the bridge surface to carry out the next steps such as making railings, paving the road surface and auxiliary works.

After 2 years of construction, Hung Duc Bridge has taken shape. After completion and put into use, Hung Duc Bridge is the 5th bridge across Lam River connecting Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces. Previously, 4 bridges were put into use including: Ben Thuy Bridge 1,2, Cua Hoi Bridge and Yen Xuan Bridge.
