Shocking revelation of White House secrets about the Middle East

The Atlantic magazine editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg published an article on March 24 stating that he was included in a work exchange group on the messaging app Signal, where top White House officials discussed plans for airstrikes against Houthi forces in Yemen on March 15. Mr. Goldberg said that the exchange group had names that matched Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio... and the person who invited Mr. Goldberg to the group was National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.

White House National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes confirmed the content and said they were looking into how outsiders were "inadvertently" included. Despite the confirmation, Secretary Hegseth criticized Mr. Goldberg, saying "no one texted about war plans." In response, the editor-in-chief said Mr. Hegseth was lying and asserted that the leak could have had very serious consequences if he had made the plan public.

According to CNN, many officials were shocked to learn that White House staff discussed military plans on an unauthorized application instead of through the government's secure communication system.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-Calif.) called it one of the most shocking breaches of military intelligence he had read about in a long time and called for an investigation. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who has been criticized by Mr. Trump for using a private email account for official business, could not believe it, saying "this has to be a joke."

When asked about the incident, President Trump said he had "no idea" and appeared to discredit The Atlantic magazine and Mr. Goldberg while asserting that the airstrike was very effective. Spokesman Hughes said that the success of the operation proved there was no threat to US troops or national security.

The airstrike was carried out by the US on March 15 in response to Houthi attacks on shipping in the Red Sea. The force announced that it would continue to attack to show solidarity with the Palestinians and demand that Israel stop attacking the Gaza Strip. The recent ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel has collapsed, leading to the resumption of tense fighting in the region.

At the same time, Israel also carried out airstrikes in Lebanon in response to rocket attacks from there, despite a ceasefire agreement between the two sides. Yesterday, the Israeli army announced that it would continue to bomb the Tadmur and T4 air bases in Syria's Homs province, which had been attacked for their role in transporting weapons in the region, according to Reuters. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Affairs Kaja Kallas, during a visit to Jerusalem on March 24, said that the airstrikes on Syria and Lebanon risked escalating regional tensions.
