The Ministry of Education and Training announced the decision to recognize the Principal of Quy Nhon University.

Associate Professor Dr. Doan Duc Tung has just been recognized by the Ministry of Education and Training to continue holding the position of Rector of Quy Nhon University for the 2025-2030 term, with the goal of bringing the school into the top 100 universities in Southeast Asia.

On September 30, Quy Nhon University (Quy Nhon Nam Ward, Gia Lai ) held a ceremony to announce the decision of the Minister of Education and Training on recognizing Associate Professor, Dr. Doan Duc Tung as the principal for the 2025-2030 term.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc asked Associate Professor, Dr. Doan Duc Tung to promptly and effectively implement the major orientations of the Party and the Politburo on education development, especially Resolution 57-NQ/TW on scientific and technological breakthroughs, innovation and national digital transformation.

According to the Deputy Minister, Quy Nhon University needs to promote innovation in training programs, focusing on priority groups such as pedagogy and STEM; linking scientific research with innovation; building a team of leading lecturers and scientists; attracting high-quality human resources; and at the same time promoting the application of artificial intelligence and digital transformation in all activities of the school.

Currently, Quy Nhon University offers 52 undergraduate majors, 24 master’s majors and 5 doctoral majors, with more than 16,000 students. Many key majors such as data science, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, logistics and supply chain management, automotive engineering technology, etc. have made their mark in training, research and technology transfer.

The school has more than 51% of lecturers with doctoral degrees, many of whom are recognized as associate professors. To date, 36/73 training programs have been quality-accredited. Notably, Quy Nhon University is among 14 higher education institutions approved by the Prime Minister to participate in the national teacher training network until 2050.

Top 100 Southeast Asia target

As the new principal, Associate Professor Dr. Doan Duc Tung affirmed that he will focus on bringing Quy Nhon University to meet regional quality standards, striving to be in the top 100 universities in Southeast Asia.

According to the plan, Quy Nhon University will establish a pedagogical school, a business-management school, a technical-technology school, and move towards forming Quy Nhon University. The school aims to expand the training scale from 16,000 to 20,000 full-time students; develop a team of 600 lecturers, of which over 60% have doctoral degrees; complete the accreditation of 100% of pedagogical training programs, with at least 60% meeting national and international standards.

"We will promote scientific research linked to businesses, establish science and technology enterprises, and expand cooperation with prestigious universities and research institutes in the region and around the world," Associate Professor, Dr. Doan Duc Tung emphasized.

The journey of the new principal

Associate Professor, Dr. Doan Duc Tung was born in 1975, graduated with a bachelor's, master's and doctorate in electrical engineering from Hanoi University of Science and Technology. He was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2020.

Before becoming the principal, he held many important positions at Quy Nhon University such as: Deputy Dean, Head of Faculty of Engineering - Technology, Head of Facilities Department, Vice Principal. He is also a delegate of the People's Council of Gia Lai province, term XII (term 2021 - 2026).

From July 1, 2024, Associate Professor, Dr. Doan Duc Tung assumed the position of Rector of Quy Nhon University for the 2020-2025 term. Under his leadership, the school has implemented many important policies, enhancing its reputation in the fields of training, research, and community service.
