Recently, on the afternoon of September 22, due to thunderstorms accompanied by prolonged heavy rain, many households in Hamlet 6, Thien Hung Commune ( Dong Nai Province) were partially flooded and isolated. Upon receiving the news, 15 minutes later, in the conditions of prolonged heavy rain and deeply flooded roads, comrade Le Van Giap, Commander of the Military Command of Thien Hung Commune, directly commanded the standing militia platoon of 18 officers and soldiers to promptly mobilize to the scene to help people move people and property to a safe place.

Comrade Le Van Giap (right) discussed and grasped the living conditions of people affected by natural disasters on the afternoon of September 22 in Thien Hung commune.

Mr. Giap said: “Mrs. Ho Thi Bach Tuyet, born in 1950, has only a mother and son. She is also sick, and her son has a stroke and is trapped in the house due to rising floodwaters. My teammates and I directly swam in to bring both mother and son to a safe location, and at the same time organized medical examinations, provided medical care, and provided food and necessities to help the mother and son.”

Mrs. Ho Thi Bach Tuyet was moved: "I am truly moved and grateful to Mr. Le Van Giap and the militia soldiers for their timely rescue. Otherwise, it would have been difficult for my mother and I to survive in that dangerous situation."

This is one of the four times that Mr. Giap and his teammates have promptly mobilized to help people overcome the consequences of natural disasters in the commune from July 2025 to present. The timely and decisive direction and high sense of responsibility of Mr. Giap and the officers and soldiers of Thien Hung commune militia have contributed to ensuring the safety of the people, minimizing the damage caused by natural disasters; thereby enhancing the qualities of the "square star" soldier in the hearts of the people in the border area.

Comrade Le Van Giap, Commander of the Military Command of Thien Hung Commune (Dong Nai Province).

Located in a complex terrain area, Thien Hung commune often faces floods, tornadoes and the risk of forest fires. Realizing this, comrade Giap has proactively developed a plan to prevent and combat natural disasters, assigning forces to be on duty in each area, ensuring that the mobile militia unit can respond quickly when situations arise.

Having been involved in local military work in the difficult border area for more than 15 years, Mr. Le Van Giap has always been loved by his comrades and people of Thien Hung commune. Not only is he an exemplary commander, he is also a dedicated officer, always proactive and creative in his work. In his military uniform worn over the years, with a tanned face and determined eyes, Mr. Le Van Giap is always diligent every day with the task of building a strong local armed force, contributing to maintaining peace and sustainable development for the border area.

Immediately after merging administrative units and implementing two-level local government, Mr. Giap proactively advised the local military and defense plan to the Party Committee and the commune government for close leadership and direction. He focused on perfecting the commune militia force, organizing training with realistic contents, suitable to the local situation - a border commune with complex terrain. The training situations given were all linked to reality such as: Forest fire prevention and fighting training; rescue and relief in floods; prevention and control of illegal border crossings and smuggling; reconnaissance and patrol techniques, on-site combat plans, tactics to fight enemy air raids, etc. Thanks to that, the commune militia force has increasingly improved its mettle, technical level, and discipline, ready to receive and complete all assigned tasks well.

Currently, the Military Command of Thien Hung commune has built a militia force accounting for more than 1.2% of the population, the number of trained troops has reached 98.6%, the inspection of the contents has more than 75% good, safe, and good discipline. The Military Command of Thien Hung commune has been evaluated by the Military Command of Dong Nai province as one of the typical units in the Emulation Movement to Win from July 2025 to present.

As a border commune bordering Cambodia, the lives of Thien Hung people still face many difficulties, especially in hamlets far from the center, where production is mainly agriculture and hired labor. Understanding that, Mr. Giap always worries: Firmly protecting the border, building a strong and comprehensive unit not only by armed forces but also by the stability and prosperity of the people.

From that thought, he proactively coordinated with the commune’s departments and branches to organize technical consultation sessions on cultivation and livestock raising for the people. Many production models such as goat raising, greenhouse vegetable growing, etc. were effectively implemented, helping people stabilize their lives.

Not only that, he also mobilized the militia to participate in "Volunteer Saturday", helping people repair houses, build rural roads, and dredge canals, especially in low-lying areas often affected by heavy rains. "Every action, no matter how small, demonstrates the affection and responsibility of the officers and soldiers of the commune's armed forces towards the people," Mr. Giap shared.

Although he was a commander, Mr. Giap always maintained a simple, close and humble lifestyle. He often went to the base, grasped the situation of the militia, listened to the opinions of the people and promptly proposed to the government to support difficult cases. It was this closeness and closeness to the people that helped the armed forces of Thien Hung commune become a solid support for the people.

With continuous efforts, the Military Command of Thien Hung commune has always completed its tasks excellently. From 2017 to now, Mr. Le Van Giap has been awarded 9 certificates of merit and won many high prizes in competitions and sports, such as the C prize in the Technical Innovation Competition of the Military Command of Binh Phuoc province (now Dong Nai province) in 2024; the first prize in the Competition of Standing Militia on Land Borders at Binh Phuoc province (now Dong Nai) in 2023...

Confiding in everyone, Mr. Giap said: “I am just a militia soldier in everyday life. There are still many difficulties and challenges ahead, but every day, I wish to contribute a small part of my strength to building a peaceful homeland in the border area, and that makes me happy and joyful.”
