The increase in electricity prices will cause businesses to pay an average of 91,000 - 499,000 VND/month more.

Regarding the impact of the electricity price increase from October 11 on businesses, service businesses and administrative units, according to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Nam, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), along with household electricity prices, the new retail electricity price applied to manufacturing industries has also been adjusted.

Specifically, for voltage levels from 22 kV to under 110 kV, the price ranges from 1,749 - 3,242 VND/kWh, depending on the time frame. For voltage levels from 6 kV - under 22 kV, the price ranges from 1,812 - 3,348 VND/kWh, depending on the time frame.

For the administrative sector, the new retail electricity price is from 2,040 - 2,124 VND/kWh depending on the time frame and voltage level. The retail electricity price for the business sector has a difference between peak and off-peak hours and voltage level, respectively 1,525 VND and 4,795 VND/kWh. These prices do not include VAT.

According to EVN leaders, there are currently about 547,000 customers using electricity for business services, paying an average of 5.17 million VND per month for electricity. After the adjustment, they will pay an additional 247,000 VND per month. For production units, there are currently 1.921 million production households, paying an average of 10.38 million VND per month. After the adjustment, the electricity bill will increase by 499,000 VND per month. For administrative units, there are about 691,000 customers, paying an average of 1.93 million VND per month. After the adjustment, units will have to pay an additional 91,000 VND per month.

Regarding the detailed increase in each group of customers using electricity for daily life , Mr. Nguyen Xuan Nam said that EVN's calculations show that for households using less than 50 kWh of electricity (more than 3.26 million households, accounting for 11.51% of households), the electricity bill will increase by about 4,350 VND/household/month.

For the group of customers using from 51 kWh - 100 kWh (more than 4.4 million households, accounting for 15.53% of households), the increase in electricity bill increases by about 8,850 VND/household/month. For the group of customers using from 101 kWh - 200 kWh (more than 9.73 million households, accounting for 34.31% of households and the largest customer group), the increase in electricity bill increases by about 19,250 VND/household/month.

For the group of customers using electricity from 201 kWh - 300 kWh (more than 5.25 million households, accounting for 18.5% of electricity customers), the electricity bill increase is about 32,350 VND/household/month.

For customers using 301-400 kWh of electricity (more than 2.51 million households, accounting for about 8.87% of electricity customers), the increase in electricity bill is about 47,050 VND/household/month. For customers using 400 kWh or more (more than 3.2 million households, accounting for about 11.28% of electricity customers), the increase in electricity bill is about 62,150 VND/household/month.

Additional costs for household electricity customers each month after electricity prices increase

“The total number of household customers using electricity from 200kWh/month or less is more than 17.41 million households, the average increase in electricity bill for each household is 13,800 VND/household. Thus, the impact on common household customers (under 200kWh/month) is moderate, while customer groups with higher electricity consumption will suffer a more significant increase,” said Mr. Nam.

According to Mr. Nam, to support the poor, the Prime Minister has decided to support 30 kWh/month for poor households. Thus, the support for poor households will increase from 59,000 VND to 62,500 VND/month.

EVN also estimated that the 4.8% increase in electricity prices would increase the CPI by about 0.04%. This is also a very low increase and has been calculated by the Government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to not have much impact on the economy.

Since the beginning of 2023, EVN has adjusted electricity prices three times and implemented them within its authority, with increases of 3%, 4.5% and 4.8%.
