According to the forecast of Ha Tinh Hydrometeorological Station, from September 28 to 30, Ha Tinh area is likely to experience a widespread heavy rain with total rainfall ranging from 200-400mm, locally over 500mm. Faced with the complicated weather, many aquaculture farmers in Ha Tinh have proactively deployed response measures to minimize damage.
With decades of experience in raising fish in cages, Mr. Nguyen Huu Hung (Song Hai village, Thach Ha commune) is always nervous and worried every time there is a forecast of storms. When hearing that storm No. 10 is a fast-moving, strong storm that can directly impact Ha Tinh, Mr. Hung and nearly 20 aquaculture households in Song Hai village proactively reinforced their ponds and tied down their cages to protect their assets and achievements before the big storm hits.

“With every big storm, water from upstream, combined with strong winds, can break and damage the cages, so from the evening of September 26 until now, I have bought more ropes to tie the cages, in addition, I bought more nets to prevent fish from drifting when the water level rises too high. My family raises 14 cages of sea bass, currently 80% of the fish have been sold before the rainy season, the remaining fish have reached an average weight of 1.5 - 2 kg/fish” - Mr. Hung shared.
According to many households raising fish in cages in Song Hai village, to cope with the rainy and stormy season, about 70% of the fish output has been proactively harvested early and sold when it reaches commercial weight. Up to this point, the remaining farming areas have been basically reinforced by the people to preserve the results and avoid loss when storm No. 10 makes landfall.
“We also regularly monitor the area, update the weather situation and the development of storm Bualoi for the people, at the same time, guide people to take measures to protect their ponds and proactively respond to possible situations,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Duc, Head of Song Hai village.

In the shrimp farming area of Tran Phu ward, many aquaculture areas are also being managed and protected by local people against the unusual developments of storm Bualoi.
“My family has 14 hectares of shrimp farming, 60% of the commercial shrimp have been sold since the beginning of September. A few days ago, when I heard the forecast of storm No. 10 making landfall, causing heavy rain in Ha Tinh, I proactively increased measures to treat water sources, reinforced the farming banks with nets, and at the same time, checked the generator equipment system to ensure the aeration time is maintained when unusual weather occurs” - Mr. Nguyen Van Mai (Tan Quy village, Tran Phu ward) said.
According to statistics, in Tran Phu ward there are more than 240 hectares of aquaculture, including many types such as shrimp, crab, fish... In order to minimize damage before the storm Bualoi, which is forecasted to be a hurricane, the local government quickly established steering committees, informed people about the weather situation, and at the same time guided people to implement plans to manage farmed assets in unusual weather conditions.

In order to proactively respond to the complicated developments of storms and floods, dozens of aquaculture households in Vinh Loc village, Cam Trung commune have also quickly deployed measures to protect their ponds.
"As soon as the commune announced the risk of storm No. 10 making landfall, we lowered the pond water level to avoid flooding, reinforced the embankment and used nets to prevent shrimp and fish from escaping during prolonged heavy rain. These are effective solutions, helping people minimize damage caused by storms and rains" - Mr. Vo Uyen (Vinh Loc village, Cam Trung commune) said.

In the face of the development of storm No. 10, the professional sector recommends that, in the face of forecasts of heavy rain, aquaculture farmers need to proactively prevent, especially in areas at risk of flooding and flash floods. In addition, farming households need to continuously update weather developments, and after storms, they must fully check environmental indicators. For shrimp and fish farming areas, it is possible to add minerals such as salt, minerals, Vitamin C; maintain aeration time in shrimp ponds until the algae population stabilizes again. In case of unusual developments, it is necessary to contact local authorities and professional sectors for support.
