Ensuring safety and timely support for people in flooded areas

On October 4, Mr. Nong Quang Nhat, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, visited and encouraged people in flooded areas affected by storm No. 10 in Van Lang commune. He was accompanied by representatives from several provincial departments and branches.

Comrade Nong Quang Nhat and the working group surveyed some safe locations for people to avoid storms.

According to the report of the leader of Van Lang commune, the impact of storm No. 10 has caused serious damage to houses, infrastructure and agricultural production in the area.

Specifically, the whole commune has 28 houses affected, of which 1 house had its roof completely blown off; 13 houses were flooded and forced to evacuate people and property to ensure safety; 14 households living near the slope are at high risk of landslides with an estimated volume of rock and soil of about 400m³; some houses had their property and household items swept away by water...

The school system in the area was also heavily affected. Luong Thuong Kindergarten had a landslide on the slope behind the classroom with a volume of about 40m³ of soil; Khuoi Hat school was flooded, damaging teaching equipment; Luong Thuong Primary and Secondary School had 20 roofing sheets blown off.

In addition, some routes to school were cut off, forcing students to temporarily stay home from school to ensure safety.

Some houses are still deeply flooded.

Regarding traffic infrastructure, the whole commune recorded 30 large and small landslides with a total volume of more than 30,000m³ of rock and soil. National Highway 279 passing through the area had many landslides, causing traffic congestion. The inter-commune road Van Lang - Vinh Thong had 48 landslides; many inter-village routes in Khuoi Phay, Na Mo, Quoc Tuan, Kim Van... were also cut off, causing difficulties for hundreds of households to travel.

Agricultural production was severely affected with 185 hectares of rice, 78 hectares of corn, soybeans, peanuts and many other crops flooded and lost. About 2.6 hectares of cold water fish ponds and 300 square meters of fish tanks were flooded, with an estimated loss of about 15 tons of commercial fish.

People moved mainly by raft to supply food and support the transport of property.

Van Lang Commune People's Committee urgently mobilized local forces to support people in overcoming the consequences, evacuating households in dangerous areas, and building temporary houses.

At the same time, local authorities coordinated with relevant units to initially clear traffic routes.

Faced with the great damage caused by storm No. 10, Van Lang commune proposed the province provide emergency support of about 27.3 billion VND to repair infrastructure, restore production and stabilize people's lives.
