On January 24, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on the world to take urgent action to prevent the rising wave of terrorism in Africa.
The Global Counter-Terrorism Coordination Compact is the UN's largest inter-agency framework, operating on three pillars: peace and security, sustainable development and human rights.
The Treaty was signed on February 23, 2018 to strengthen the UN's common action approach, supporting member states in the balanced implementation of the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy as well as other relevant resolutions and mandates of this organization.
As of 24 May 2023, 46 entities have joined the treaty as members or observers, including 42 entities within the UN and institutions including the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL), the World Customs Organization, the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
