On the morning of September 12, President Vo Van Thuong attended the opening ceremony of the 2023-2024 school year at the National Defense Academy ( Hanoi ).
Also attending were General Phan Van Giang - Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, Minister of National Defense and leaders of several ministries and branches.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, President Vo Van Thuong sent his best wishes to the officers, lecturers, students, staff and soldiers of the National Defense Academy, and highly appreciated the Academy for always upholding its tradition as a leading training and scientific research center of the army and the whole country.

Analyzing the world and regional situation, President Vo Van Thuong emphasized the need to strengthen national defense and security, and firmly build and protect the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.
To strengthen national defense and military strength; build a revolutionary, disciplined, elite, and gradually modern army to meet requirements and tasks in all situations, President Vo Van Thuong emphasized that one of the very important tasks is the training of cadres and directed the National Defense Academy to continue to innovate and improve the quality of training and education work.
The President suggested that the Academy should continue to be proactive, positive, creative, and take the lead in implementing the policy "The quality of the school's training is the combat readiness of the unit" as directed by the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense. Promoting the achievements of recent years, continuing to innovate with breakthroughs in the curriculum, content of education - training and scientific research in line with the strategy of protecting the Fatherland in the new situation, improving the quality and effectiveness of training and fostering cadres.

In particular, focusing on innovating training and education work, especially innovating the training program for campaign and strategic cadres of the Army; fostering national defense and security knowledge for cadres under central management, ensuring close compliance with the country's defense and security tasks, the Army's development; suitable to the combat objects and methods of warfare in the world today.
The National Defense Academy must be the locomotive in innovation, improving the quality of education and training, actively contributing to building a contingent of Army cadres and strategic-level cadres of the Party and State to meet the requirements of building and defending the Fatherland in the new situation.
Have appropriate countermeasures to protect the Fatherland "early, from afar"
The President emphasized that as the country's leading military science center, the Academy needs to do a good job of analyzing, researching, evaluating and accurately forecasting situations related to national defense and security; promptly advise the Party, the State, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense on policies and proactive prevention measures, and have appropriate countermeasures to protect the Fatherland "early and from afar", not allowing the Fatherland to be passive and surprised in any situation.

Along with noting that the Academy needs to focus on building a team of lecturers and leading scientists with strong political will, absolute loyalty to Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh's thought, the Party, the State, the People and the Army, the President requested the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense to pay attention to directing and creating conditions for the Academy to soon overcome the shortage of cadres and lecturers with practical experience, teaching capacity and scientific research.
For students, the President requires them to have profound knowledge, to identify their responsibilities and honor as students of the National Defense Academy. They must determine the right motivation for studying, "Study to work, to be a human, to be a cadre. Study to serve the organization, serve the class and the people, serve the Fatherland and humanity" as Uncle Ho taught; absolutely oppose the ideology of studying only for degrees, to meet the conditions to be promoted, have a salary increase, and be organized into a leadership position.
Each student must always practice their ideological stance, political qualities, ethics, working style, and lifestyle; overcome the fear and laziness of studying political theory. Have a sense of discipline, healthy working style and lifestyle, and strictly comply with the rules and regulations of the Academy.
"Each student should ask themselves whether they come to the National Defense Academy and the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics to enrich their knowledge, practice methods, seek new things, learn good experiences to work well, or sometimes they cannot become an official without taking this class, so they have to go through it" - the President raised the issue.
The President believes that with the glorious tradition of 46 years of construction, development and growth, the National Defense Academy will definitely complete its tasks in the 2023-2024 school year excellently; at the same time, it will determine a solid step on the theoretical and practical foundation that our army and Party have achieved.
