The United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week takes place from September 22-30 with the participation of many heads of state, heads of government and senior officials of all 193 United Nations member states.
This year, the world's largest multilateral organization celebrates its 80th anniversary, in a context where the world is facing a series of traditional challenges as well as emerging issues.
Over the past 80 years, the United Nations has fueled the faith and hope for lasting peace and sustainable development for all nations and peoples, helping to demonstrate the importance and vitality of multilateralism and affirming its irreplaceable role in realizing the human aspiration for a better world built on the foundation of universal values, namely national independence, national sovereignty, equality and social progress.
Vietnam will continue to be a reliable partner, an active and responsible member, accompanying the United Nations and the international community in resolving difficulties, overcoming challenges, promoting peace, stability, cooperation and prosperous development in each country, region and the whole world, bringing happiness and prosperity to all people.
Regarding Vietnam-US relations, this year, the two countries celebrate 30 years of establishing diplomatic relations, from former enemies to Comprehensive Strategic Partners.
In just three decades, the two countries have transformed from healing the wounds of war to becoming trusted partners, cooperating in many areas such as trade, education, health, energy and security.
Economy is an important pillar in the relationship between the two countries. Vietnam is currently the 8th largest trading partner of the US and the US is Vietnam's largest export market.
In educational cooperation, Vietnam is the 6th largest source of foreign students in the US, with about 30,000 students studying and this number is increasing.
The high-level phone calls between General Secretary To Lam and US President Donald Trump, along with recent activities of high-level delegations from the two countries, have shown that the Vietnam-US relationship is at its best stage; at the same time, it demonstrates the special respect that the US has for Vietnam.
