On September 30, President of the National Assembly of the People's Power, President of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez, and the Cuban delegation arrived in Hanoi , starting an official visit to Vietnam and co-chairing the 2nd meeting of the Vietnam-Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee from September 30 to October 5, at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man .
The Cuban delegation included: Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Vietnam Rogelio Polanco Fuentes; Secretary General of the National Assembly of People's Power, Secretary General of the Council of State Homero Acosta Alvarez; Coordinator of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly and the Council of State Martha Hernández Romero; Chairman of the Food and Agriculture Committee of the National Assembly and the Council of State Ramon Osmani Aguilar Betancourt; Chairman of the Health and Sports Committee of the National Assembly and the Council of State Cristina Luna Morales; Chairman of the Economic Committee of the National Assembly and the Council of State Felix Martínez Suarez.
Mr. Esteban Lazo Hernandez was born on February 26, 1944 in the district of Jovellanos, province of Matanzas, Cuba. In 1961, he joined the Cuban Revolutionary Militia; in 1962, he became a member of the Revolutionary Defense Committee (CDR). He joined the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in 1963. From 1964 to 1979, he held the following positions: Member of the Accounting Committee (CPC) in the City of Jovellanos, in charge of education; Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee in San Pedro de Mayabon, Los Arabos; Head of the Organizational Committee of the Regional Bureau in Colon; Head of the Organizational Committee in the province of Mantanzas, Provincial Delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture in Mantanzas, member of the Provincial Party Committee Office.
He was Deputy Secretary and Secretary of the Mantanzas Provincial Party Committee, Member of the National Assembly (1980-1981); Secretary of the Santiago de Cuba Provincial Party Committee (1986-1994); Vice President of the State Council (1992-2013); Secretary of the Havana City Party Committee (1994-2013). From 2003 to present, he has been a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. From February 2013 to present, he was elected President of the Cuban National Assembly for the 8th, 9th and 10th terms.
