Ho Chi Minh City Theater, a 123-year-old architectural work, is where cultural and artistic programs and political and diplomatic events of the city take place.
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City has just reported on a number of key tasks and solutions to problems in the culture and sports sector, including speeding up the implementation of projects in the city.
One of the important projects mentioned is the restoration of the national architectural and artistic relic of the City Theater with a total investment of more than 337 billion VND. Currently, the project is in the investment phase with specific contents such as outline preparation, design tasks, planning to select contractors, organizing bidding... It is expected that by early 2025, the city will start the project to restore the iconic theater that is more than 123 years old right in this center. The current problem is that the project has a proposed capital plan of 5 billion VND this year but has not been arranged.
According to the resolution passed by the City People's Council in 2023, the theater will be renovated and restored, the main building will be supplemented with technical systems and equipment; and the relocation, preservation, and use of artifacts and equipment during construction will be organized.
The theater is a national monument, so the important requirement when renovating is to ensure the original condition of the building. Therefore, the functional sector has 3D scanned the entire architectural work. This helps to create data files with 3D images, correct size, current scale, structure, components... before repairing.
The renovation project will take place over three years. Construction will be carried out in a rolling manner to ensure that functional rooms operate regularly.
Besides the City Theater, 7 other major projects were also included in the investment plan by the Department of Culture and Sports, including: Ho Chi Minh City Children's Cultural Palace project, renovation and repair of Phu Tho Sports Gymnasium; renovation and upgrade of Thong Nhat Stadium; Hoa Lu Stadium; Phu Tho Swimming and Diving Club; Phu Tho Sports Gymnasium, and construction of a new Center for Training Talented Sports Athletes.
The city plans to evaluate and summarize the implementation of these projects on April 30, 2025 to celebrate the anniversary of national reunification. From March 1 to April 30, 2025, the city will evaluate the implementation results and organize the project groundbreaking and inauguration ceremonies.
