Vietnam is currently a responsible, active member and is increasingly participating in the common work of the United Nations. As President of the 78th UN General Assembly, could you please share with us the meaningful contributions of Vietnam to the United Nations in recent times and the significance of General Secretary and President To Lam 's working trip to the United Nations this time?
Vietnam is an active and responsible member, and has been continuously making meaningful and very important contributions to the United Nations. Let me take the example of international peacekeeping . Vietnam has sent peacekeepers to many hot spots in the world, including South Sudan, where I had the opportunity to meet Vietnamese soldiers in person. Vietnam has also made many contributions as a member of the UN Human Rights Council for the 2023-2026 term, a member of the International Law Commission for the 2023-2027 term, and a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council... These successes demonstrate Vietnam's strong commitment to the fundamental principles and values of the UN Charter, international law, and multilateralism in general. General Secretary and President To Lam's participation in the UN General Assembly High-Level Week this year is an extremely meaningful event, demonstrating the highest political commitment at an important time when the international community is determined to promote multilateralism to deal with a series of current global challenges.
Vietnam has an increasingly important voice at the UN, participating in many mechanisms of the world's largest multilateral organization and reaping many meaningful achievements. What is your assessment of the "Vietnam bamboo diplomacy" policy?
As its name suggests, "bamboo diplomacy" is a soft but resolute diplomatic line, very dynamic, very open, clearly demonstrating Vietnam's policy of wanting to be friends with all countries. I am truly impressed with this diplomatic line of yours, contributing to promoting and strengthening multilateralism, showing its rationality and effectiveness in the context of the world in the era of globalization. Currently, many countries in the Southern Hemisphere are lagging behind in their efforts to achieve sustainable development goals. Certainly, Vietnam, with its "bamboo diplomacy" line, has many practical experiences that can be shared with countries in the Southern Hemisphere, both in terms of development and peacekeeping.
With that good foundation of relationship, how do you evaluate the relationship between Vietnam and the UN after the working trip of General Secretary and President To Lam, as well as in the coming time?
After the upcoming visit of General Secretary and President To Lam, I believe that the relationship between the United Nations and Vietnam will continue to be consolidated and strengthened. The focus of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly will be on promoting human dignity and rights, enhancing the values of health, education, and strengthening peace and sustainable development. These are also strong commitments of Vietnam.
The visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to the UN and his participation in the Future Summit demonstrates Vietnam’s highest level of commitment and will certainly contribute to raising the relationship between Vietnam and the UN to a new level. The Future Summit is also a special event, a conference for the future of the world, an opportunity for international leaders to promote solidarity and multilateralism to realize the goals of the UN. I believe that the visit of the Vietnamese leaders is an opportunity for Vietnam to strongly reaffirm its commitments.
Thank you very much!
