On the morning of September 30, the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations held a meeting to solemnly celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and Vietnam (September 23, 1975 - September 23, 2025) and the 35th German Reunification Day (October 3, 1990 - October 3, 2025).
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Ho Xuan Lam, Vice President and General Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations, said that the Vietnam-Germany relationship over the past 50 years has continuously developed, especially in the fields of economics , trade and cooperation, becoming increasingly deep, effective and comprehensive, achieving successes in all fields.

Germany is currently Vietnam's second largest trading partner in Europe and one of Vietnam's largest ODA donors.
Ho Chi Minh City is a place with many imprints in the concretization of the Vietnam-Germany bilateral relationship, typically the German International School, the Vietnam-Germany University (VGU) and the German House are typical works, spreading the language, culture and spirit of German-Vietnamese cooperation, vivid evidence of the close connection between education , research and development practices, while affirming the pioneering role of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam-Germany cooperation.
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City and its German partners have been implementing many cooperation activities in the fields of green energy, smart urban development, healthcare, finance and climate change response.
In particular, the growing presence of German businesses in the City in sustainable investment sectors demonstrates the sense of social responsibility and long-term vision of German investors towards Vietnam.
In terms of people's diplomacy, the Vietnam - Germany Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City is proud to accompany many meaningful people's diplomacy activities of the two countries.
In particular, in 2025, the year of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the Association coordinated with relevant agencies to implement a series of rich and practical events such as the German Career Orientation Bus and the Tree Planting Ceremony to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Germany cooperation, and people-to-people exchange activities at the German Festival.

Thanking the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations for organizing this solemn ceremony, Ms. Andrea Suhl, German Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, said that over the past 50 years, the Germany-Vietnam bilateral relationship has continuously developed in all fields thanks to the active efforts of both countries.
Appreciating Vietnam's strong development potential in the new period, Ms. Andrea Suhl said that Germany, with its strengths in education and economic development, is ready to accompany and cooperate closely with Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh City, in the new development period.
German enterprises are ready to cooperate with Vietnamese partners in technology transfer and training of high-quality human resources for Vietnam. Germany has also been increasing cooperation activities with Vietnam in areas where Germany has strengths and Vietnam prioritizes development such as education and training, clean energy, and environmental protection.
Ms. Andrea Suhl expressed her joy and appreciated the role of Ho Chi Minh City in developing the bilateral relationship between Germany and Vietnam as a locality implementing many cooperation projects between the two countries and also the headquarters of the Vietnam-Germany University and the German House - vivid symbols of the good cooperative relationship between Germany and Vietnam; committed to continue to closely coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Friendship Organizations in implementing people-to-people diplomacy activities, enhancing understanding and friendship between the people of the two countries./.
