In the 1990s, stories of women being sold and tricked into going to China took place in many villages in the North. The lives that suffered from tragedy due to gullibility, mistrust and social traps haunted journalist-writer Ngoc Tran from childhood to adulthood, and then she condensed them into the novel “ The Story of the Sun.”
On September 18, in Hanoi , author Ngoc Tran launched the novel " The Story of the Sun," published by Dong Tay Book Company and Literature Publishing House.
The work opens up an artistic space that is both fierce and humane, depicting the fate of rural women in the turbulent flow of contemporary society.
Readers follow the footsteps of Ngoan – an innocent country girl who leaves her village for the first time with the person she loves, carrying with her a simple dream. But Ngoan quickly falls into tragedy when she is tricked and sold like a commodity in a foreign land. Her journey, from “bright light to tight darkness”, becomes a symbol of the lives of people trampled by adversity.

The work was written on the phone during sleepless nights. The author affirms that this is not a romance story, nor does it aim to teach the law of cause and effect. It is a story of light and darkness, of the struggle between good and evil in each person's heart.
She conveyed a simple yet profound message: “In this life, don’t expect to be warmed by the light borrowed from others. Let your heart and kindness be the sunlight that illuminates your life.”
“The Story of the Sun” is not only about a girl, but also the story of disadvantaged women, where “the light often goes out before it can shine.”
In nearly 200 pages, the novel is full of “twists” (unexpected changes) that sometimes make the reader breathless. However, the ending opens up “a lot of brightness, full of sunshine” bringing faith in the light and goodness of human beings.
Editor Mai Hue (East West Bookstore) was moved: “When I was assigned to edit Ngoc Tran’s story, I sat quietly wiping away my tears. What I felt most regretful about after closing the novel was not love but family affection… The author writes concise stories with many details but very logical, without any unnecessary details.”
Ngoc Tran is a journalist with 20 years of experience in the field of culture and entertainment. She has published a short story collection called “Tomorrow Could Be the Next Life” and contributed to two short story collections , “Free Birds” and “From the Memory”./.
