Transfer of power in the archipelago country

Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto will officially be sworn in for the 2024-2029 term at 10:00 on October 20 at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta.

Informing the press before the important event of the archipelago country, Mr. Ahmad Muzani - Secretary General of the ruling Gerindra Party said that the inauguration ceremony of President Prabowo Subianto will be attended by 21 heads of state and leaders of countries. To ensure security for the ceremony, Indonesia will deploy a powerful force, including the army, air force and navy along with 7,000 police.

Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto (72 years old) won a resounding victory in the February election. He and his vice presidential candidate Gibran Rakabuming Raka (36 years old), son of current President Widodo, won 58.6% of the vote, far ahead of former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan and runner-up Muhaimin Iskandar with 24.94% of the vote.

Since his victory, Mr. Prabowo has traveled to many countries, including Jakarta's top destinations such as China, Russia, France and most of the ASEAN countries. Mr. Prabowo's pre-inauguration trips were considered by many analysts as an effort to build global recognition, demonstrating Indonesia's foreign policy ambitions when he took power.

Mr. Prabowo was born to a father who served as a minister under President Sukarno. However, he was forced to live in exile at a young age when his father, one of Indonesia's most prominent economists , fled abroad for expressing his views against President Sukarno. In 1967, when General Suharto came to power, his family returned to Indonesia.

In 1970, Mr. Prabowo joined the army and served in the Special Forces and married President Suharto's daughter in 1983. After the Suharto regime collapsed in 1998, he left Indonesia again, living in exile in Jordan. In 2008, he returned to Indonesia, founded his own political party and ran for president in 2014 and 2019, but lost both times to President Widodo. Mr. Prabowo was a longtime rival of President Widodo, but now enjoys strong support from his predecessor.

As Indonesia faces many challenges, including the US-China strategic competition, observers are waiting to see how Mr. Prabowo will solve these difficult problems. During his visit to Beijing, the Indonesian President-elect said that Indonesia is committed to a non-aligned policy and will maintain good relations with both China and the US.

Mr. Prabowo is also working to bring political parties in Indonesia together towards the common goal of national prosperity for the benefit of the people.

According to Reuters , on October 15, Mr. Prabowo met with candidates for senior government positions to seek to bring the Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) - Indonesia's largest political party - into the ruling coalition in Parliament . If President-elect Prabowo reaches an agreement with PDI-P, there will be no opposition party in Parliament, an unprecedented situation since Indonesia began holding direct presidential elections in 2004. So far, seven of the eight parties in Parliament have joined Mr. Prabowo's coalition.

With a high number of votes in the election, along with extensive political experience and a majority ruling coalition, the term of new President Prabowo promises to bring big changes to this most populous country in Southeast Asia.
