The book is 448 pages thick, including 6 chapters: The fate of the nation in danger under the French-Japanese domination and the policy of "strategic change" of the Indochinese Communist Party; Arousing and gathering national resources to serve the task of national salvation; Political struggle combined with armed struggle; Resistance to Japan to save the country; National general uprising "Using our own strength to liberate ourselves"; August Revolution - the test of the theoretical value of the national liberation revolution of the Communist Party of Vietnam , its stature and lessons learned.

Through 6 tightly structured chapters and rich materials, the book clarifies the entire process of the August Revolution. Starting with the outbreak of World War II (September 1939), the Indochinese Communist Party put the task of national liberation first, mobilized the maximum strength of the nation to prepare forces in all aspects and seized the opportunity to carry out the General Uprising to seize power, until September 2, 1945. In the fall of 1945, under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese people successfully carried out the August Revolution, overthrew the domination of Japanese fascists, toppled the outdated monarchy, won national independence, restored the country's unity; established the State and put the people in the position of masters of the country.

Amidst the abundance of carefully researched historical documents presented in the book, the authors highlight the spirit: the main reason for the success of the August Revolution was that our Party placed the task of fighting for independence first, taking national interests as the highest priority, "understanding" the most sacred and urgent aspirations of the entire nation. Thanks to that, the call to save the country and the Party's policies of gathering, uniting, and organizing the masses to fight were quickly responded to and implemented by the people. The August Revolution in the book is filled with the spirit of synergy, unanimity, and strong unity of will between "Party's will and People's heart" uniting into a solid block, determined to rise up and overthrow the domination of imperialism and feudalism.

The authors also affirmed that the August Revolution of 1945 established and elevated the international position of the Vietnamese people, pioneering in the world in the struggle to abolish slavery, building a lasting independence closely linked to freedom, democracy and happiness of the people, with equality and social progress. The victory has profound significance and is a brilliant milestone in the history of the movement to fight against colonialism and colonial liberation in the world. Together with the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, our people have chosen the revolutionary path for peace , independence, freedom, democracy, prosperity and towards socialism.
