On the morning of September 8, Mr. Nguyen Tan Thanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Van Commune ( Da Nang City), said that the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment has just decided to recognize the cinnamon tree at Ong Ni peak (village 2, Tra Van Commune) as a Vietnamese heritage tree.

This cinnamon tree has a trunk circumference of 3.5 m and is 30 m high. Because it is over 150 years old, locals often call it "old cinnamon" and do not peel off the bark to sell, only taking seeds to grow seedlings every year.
After being recognized as a Vietnamese heritage tree, the local government fenced it off to protect it, mobilized social resources to install a heritage tree stele to promote people's awareness of protection, and at the same time developed it into a community tourism and sightseeing spot.

Mr. Nguyen Tan Thanh also informed that, in addition to this cinnamon tree, on the roof of Ong Ni there is also an ancient tea tree that scientists have determined to be about 330 years old.
Tra Van Commune People's Committee is preparing documents to submit to the authorities of Da Nang City and the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment for consideration of recognizing this ancient tea tree as a Vietnamese heritage tree.
