According to records at some vegetarian food businesses in Can Tho City, from the beginning of July (lunar calendar), the vegetarian food market has gradually become more vibrant. Consumer demand for purchasing and using vegetarian food increases when entering the 15th of July - Vu Lan festival.

On the other hand, in recent years, more and more people choose vegetarian food for their daily meals. Many young people are also excited to experience vegetarian cuisine as a modern lifestyle, both to purify the body and to contribute to protecting the environment.

Therefore, the supply of vegetarian food in the city is quite abundant. Most of the products are produced by Vietnamese enterprises with prices suitable for many customers. Processed foods for freezing, with specific origins and instructions on the packaging, help consumers have more choices and feel secure when using. Currently, stores, supermarkets and markets have prepared products for the whole month of July, so the demand has increased but the price of vegetarian food is quite stable.

Mr. Vo Van Dung, owner of Tinh Khiet Vegetarian Food Store on Tran Hung Dao Street, Ninh Kieu Ward, said: In July, also known as Vu Lan month, the number of customers is very crowded from the beginning of the month and lasts until the end of the month, especially increasing on the full moon day. In the past few days, the number of customers buying vegetarian food at the store has increased by about 20%. The store proactively prepares goods to serve customers on this occasion, so the supply is stable, prices do not fluctuate compared to normal days.

In Can Tho city, vegetarian food is quite abundant and is widely sold in many distribution channels, from specialized stores to traditional markets, shopping malls, supermarkets to online sales. Among them, foods serving vegetarian meals are having strong consumption in the market such as tofu, mushrooms, vegetables, tubers, fruits, etc.

Various types of pork rolls, fish rolls, beef wrapped in betel leaves... cost around 70,000 VND/package; buns, dumplings, wontons, sticky rice cakes... cost around 40,000 VND/package; spring rolls cost around 50,000 VND/package. Dried foods such as chicken balls, cutlets, spare ribs, beef slices, chicken slices... cost from 25,000-70,000 VND/package. Canned vegetarian foods such as pate, spare ribs in tomato sauce, stewed pork/beef with beans, soy cold cuts... cost around 40,000 VND/box. To save cooking time, some packaged vegetarian foods such as Thai-flavored or mushroom-flavored concentrated hot pot broth... cost from 17,000-25,000 VND/package; vegetable and mushroom soup, vegetarian sour soup, seaweed and tofu soup... cost from 25,000-55,000 VND/box. Instant vegetarian food also has a full range of noodles, pho, vermicelli, porridge... priced around 4,000 VND/package; vegetarian snacks such as pork floss, crispy rice, cakes, dried... priced around 25,000 VND/product...

At supermarkets in the city, a variety of vegetables and fruits are available to consumers.

At supermarkets such as Co.opMart, Go!, Bach Hoa Xanh, etc., many vegetarian products are on promotion, with discounts of 10-20%, to stimulate consumption. Vegetarian products are abundant with items such as spring rolls, wontons, vegetarian spices, dried foods, instant foods, etc. In particular, fresh vegetables, fruits, and fruits are always fully available. Some supermarkets also increase the number of pre-processed vegetarian foods (fried noodles, vegetarian rice, vegetarian sour soup, etc.) to serve the needs of customers to eat on the spot or buy to go.

These days, vegetarian restaurants in the city are bustling with customers coming to eat on the spot or buy takeaway. The restaurants serve a full range of vegetarian dishes from rice, crab noodle soup, Hue beef noodle soup, pho, Quang noodles, curry, fried noodles, wet rice cakes... priced from 25,000 VND/portion to hot pots priced around 80,000 VND/portion; vegetarian snacks such as dried seaweed, crispy rice, cakes... priced from 15,000 VND/portion.

In addition, in the city there are currently many shops, restaurants and "online" kitchens specializing in vegetarian food to help consumers save cooking time. At these places, there are quite a variety of vegetarian dishes for customers to choose from with a diverse menu for consumers to change for meals.

In addition, serving the 15th day of the 7th lunar month, various types of sticky rice, sweet soup, cakes, jelly... are created in meaningful and beautiful shapes, no less exciting. Accordingly, sticky rice pressed into molds shaped like lotus flowers, chrysanthemums, roses... costs from 20,000-80,000 VND/mold; lotus jelly, peach jelly costs around 90,000 VND/set; peach-shaped buns, lotus-shaped buns... costs around 90,000 VND/set of 5. Types of sweet soup such as sweet rice balls cost from 40,000-70,000 VND/dozen; white bean sweet soup costs 85,000-100,000 VND/kg; and che kiem costs from 90,000-120,000 VND/kg.

The vegetarian food market is currently quite rich and diverse, consumers can easily shop directly or online. However, to ensure product safety and quality, when buying food, consumers should choose products that ensure quality, clear origin... Consumers should not buy floating products, products without origin, or deformed products.
