Dak Lak and Dak Nong finalize the third exam subject, change the form of 10th grade admission

On February 12, the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training announced the third subject in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year. Accordingly, the third subject is Foreign Language (English, French).

In the 10th grade entrance exam, school year 2025-2026, the People's Committee of Dak Lak province allows 100% of public high schools in the area to enroll students by exam. This method is expected to overcome the shortcomings in enrollment of previous methods.

Specifically, for the 2024-2025 admission period, Dak Lak only agreed to 12 high schools to organize entrance exams. The remaining public high schools will organize admission based on academic records. As for those who take the entrance exam, they have an additional second wish of submitting an application to another public high school in the same area, admission based on academic records.

As a result, nearly 2,000 students received failing grades (below 1 point). Not to mention, the benchmark scores of many public high schools are very low. Some schools have benchmark scores of only 5-6 points for 3 subjects (Math, Literature, Foreign Language). Thus, on average, each subject only needs more than 1 point (not failing, i.e. 1 point) to pass the public high school.

Because of many failing scores and not meeting the enrollment target, the education sector had to lower the benchmark scores to "save" the students.

In Dak Nong, the Provincial People's Committee has decided to select 11 high schools (out of 32 schools) to pilot the entrance exam for grade 10 starting from the 2025-2026 school year. Meanwhile, in previous school years, this locality conducted admission exams. The Department of Education and Training of this province also selected English as the third subject in the entrance exam for grade 10 in the 2025-2026 school year.
