Việt NamViệt Nam17/10/2024

With advantages in land, climate and soil, Dak Nong has many conditions to develop high-value fruit trees, bringing high economic efficiency to farmers.

Some fruit trees grow quickly and are highly profitable, such as durian, passion fruit, citrus, mango... These trees all have high productivity and quality.

The climate and weather characteristics make the fruit harvest season in Dak Nong different from the traditional fruit growing regions in the West and Southeast. Therefore, Dak Nong fruit trees have advantages in price and market.

Many fruit products of Dak Nong have achieved quality certifications such as VietGAP, GlobalGAP, organic, OCOP...

In recent years, the agricultural sector and relevant agencies have implemented many programs and models to support the development of fruit trees that meet good agricultural standards in districts and cities.

The province has researched, selected varieties and perfected intensive farming processes, intercropped key fruit trees, and developed concentrated growing areas.

In which, mango, durian and avocado growing areas are in Dak Mil district; durian growing areas are in Dak R'lap district; citrus growing areas are in Gia Nghia city, Dak Glong, Krong No...

In recent times, some of the province's fruits have reached out to the world, contributing to increasing the added value of products and raising people's income.

However, the development of fruit trees in Dak Nong is facing many difficulties, challenges and can lead to risks. First of all, it is due to the spontaneous cutting and planting of trees by people, leading to the disruption of planning; challenges due to climate change...

The avocado product of Dak Nong has increased so much in acreage that supply exceeds demand, causing prices to decrease.

Many agricultural products have fallen in price or had to be rescued. For example, avocados were once priced at around 200,000 VND/kg but at other times were only a few thousand VND/kg. The reason is because supply exceeds demand.

In the past two years, many households have increased their durian acreage. According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Binh, village 10, Truong Xuan commune, Dak Song district, this year her family planted 6 hectares of new durian. She is currently stepping up care to create momentum for the garden to grow and develop well. She hopes that when the durian garden is harvested, it will bring in a high income.

According to many experts, durian is bringing high economic efficiency. However, durian growers need to anticipate challenges such as the impact of climate change, epidemics, oversupply... which will reduce the value of this crop.

As someone who has been growing durian for more than 20 years, Mr. Bui Quoc Viet, Phu Xuan village, Dak Nia commune, Gia Nghia city, said that this crop also contains many risks.

Mr. Bui Quoc Viet, Phu Xuan village, Dak Nia commune, Gia Nghia city, affirmed that durian requires high technology and is easily affected by the weather.

He currently has 11 hectares of durian. According to Mr. Viet, this is a crop that requires quite high techniques and is affected by the climate in almost all stages from flowering, fruit setting, ripening, and harvesting.

Therefore, if farmers do not master the techniques and cannot predict the weather correctly, they can easily face great risks, lose all durian output and suffer great losses.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the province's fruit trees have been growing rapidly in area in recent years. Specifically, by 2023, the province's fruit tree area will reach over 24,400 hectares, with an output of 123,000 tons.

This area has exceeded the province's orientation by 2030 by about 19,000 hectares. Compared to 2018, the fruit tree area increased by over 17,200 hectares, and the output increased by over 83,500 tons.

Durian acreage in Dak Nong has increased sharply in recent years.

Mr. Pham Tuan Anh, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, recommends that farmers, businesses, and cooperatives should not massively expand the area of fruit trees.

The province is building concentrated fruit tree production areas with uniform quality and large scale in areas with suitable climate and soil.

From there, it facilitates connection and cooperation with investors to create a large output of fruit to serve the domestic market as well as export.
