Create the best conditions for students

The province currently has 236 ethnic boarding schools, the proportion of boarding and semi-boarding students accounts for 36.3% of the total number of students in the province. The development of boarding schools in recent times has always been of concern to create the best environment for students.

Teacher Nguyen Phu Doan, Principal of Theng Phang Primary Boarding School, Xin Man Commune, said: “In the new school year 2025 - 2026, the school has a total of 514 students, of which 289 are boarding students at the school. Thanks to the State's attention, the school has invested in facilities and equipment to meet the requirements of teaching and learning in the new school year. The boarding rooms at the school are fully equipped with supplies and equipment. The school's students enjoy full support policies such as ensuring food, accommodation, learning support, and activities for boarding students... Thereby, creating conditions for children and students in difficult circumstances to continue going to school, reducing the rate of students not attending class, students dropping out of school, and gradually improving the quality of education .

At Xuan Lap Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Lam Binh Commune, after more than 10 days of opening the new school year, the discipline and curriculum have stabilized. Teacher Pham Ngoc Quang, Principal of the school, said: “The school has 17 classrooms with more than 450 students, fully equipped with facilities and equipment. The whole school has more than 130 boarding students, all rooms have private bathrooms and toilets. Recently, the school has proposed to the local authorities to arrange funds to install a hot water system to serve students in the upcoming winter.”

Continue to arrange appropriate school network

In order to concentrate on facilities and staff, teachers to improve the quality of teaching and learning, recently the Department of Education and Training of the province has coordinated with localities to review and rearrange the school network in a streamlined direction, merging small-scale schools into inter-level schools and concentrating students from small schools to main schools. At the same time, developing inter-level boarding schools to help ethnic minority students, students in remote areas have the opportunity to study in a complete environment, helping to improve the quality of teaching and learning, significantly reducing the rate of dropouts and improving diligence in schools.

During the 2021-2025 period, the province has reduced 787 satellite schools. However, the process of transferring students to main schools has encountered difficulties in some ethnic boarding schools due to lack of classrooms, boarding rooms, and lack of equipment, facilities, teachers, etc.

To address this issue, the Department of Education and Training has directed schools to review and evaluate the current state of facilities, thereby adjusting, arranging, and reorganizing to improve efficiency. The sector has also identified the need to build new, repair, and renovate classrooms (priority given to enough classrooms for 2 sessions/day), functional rooms, restrooms, dining rooms, and boarding rooms. This work is particularly focused on disadvantaged areas and ethnic minority areas. The sector has also coordinated with relevant sectors and units to prepare conditions for the construction of inter-level boarding schools in 17 border communes.

Along with strengthening the infrastructure, the development of teaching staff and management staff at boarding and semi-boarding schools is also of interest to the Department of Education and Training. Thereby, gradually improving the quality of teaching and student care at schools in the province, especially semi-boarding schools, to gradually improve the quality of education in remote areas, ethnic minority areas, ensuring educational equity between regions.
