In recent days, many communes in the province, especially those in the old Huu Lung district, have been hit by rising floodwaters that have inundated wells, tanks, and water pumping stations... causing disruptions in people's water supply.
In the old Huu Lung area alone, 6,000 households lost water for daily activities. Ms. Trieu Thi Muoi, Dong Heo village, Huu Lung commune shared: Tap water was cut off on October 7 when the floodwaters rose, many areas were deeply submerged, we had to use bottled water for cooking. Daily life was disrupted and difficult, especially for households with elderly people and young children.
Not only the centralized water system, many households using dug wells and drilled wells are also affected by floodwaters overflowing, making the water source cloudy and contaminated. Ensuring safe and hygienic domestic water at this time has become an urgent issue.
Mr. Tran Van Thinh, Director of Huu Lung Water Supply Branch, Lang Son Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company, said: Realizing that the floodwaters were rising and there was a risk of flooding the pumping stations, the unit mobilized human resources to move the pumping system and related equipment. After the water receded, the unit was urgently installing water supply machinery systems for people in the communes. Up to now, the unit has operated the water pumps and supplied water again with a capacity of 3,800m3/day and night. However, due to the high demand for water in the days immediately after the flood for sanitation and cleaning houses, the water source was not guaranteed to all households. By the night of October 12, basically all households had water to use.
In the communes of the old Trang Dinh district, nearly 4,000 households were affected by the water shortage due to floods. In response to this situation, the Trang Dinh Water Supply Branch has actively implemented remedial measures to provide water for the people. By October 9, all pumping stations were operating to pump water to serve the people's daily needs.
Mr. Luong Xuan Thang, Vice Chairman of That Khe Commune People's Committee, said: The entire commune has nearly 3,700 households using tap water affected. Immediately after the water receded, Trang Dinh Water Supply Branch quickly handled the pumping station system to ensure water supply for local people. By October 9, 100% of affected people had enough water for daily use.
According to statistics of Lang Son Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company, the recent storm caused severe flooding, the water supply system was also damaged, directly affecting the operation of pumps and water transmission pipelines, affecting 18,000 customers. In the face of the above situation, the company mobilized all human resources and means to urgently fix the problem, repair equipment, restore power and ensure system safety, stabilize water supply, and ensure the daily needs of people in the affected area.
Mr. Phuong Manh Hao, Deputy General Director of Lang Son Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company, said: Immediately after the water receded, the company directed branches and sent staff to water supply stations to check the situation, repair and install pipeline systems, pumping stations, meters and install an additional pump in Huu Lung area to ensure effective water supply. Thanks to that, up to now, 100% of pumping stations have resumed pumping water with a pumping capacity of 45,000 m3/day and night, ensuring water supply for all affected households.
Urgently overcoming the consequences and ensuring water supply for people after the storm not only helps stabilize their lives but also contributes to protecting health and preventing epidemics.
