VHO - On July 23, Viettel announced that it has opened roaming, connected telecommunications waves and is ready to deploy technological solutions to maintain communication for people as well as search and rescue work in areas affected by heavy rain and floods in Nghe An.

In the early morning of July 23, due to the impact of storm Wipha, heavy rains over a large area and floods from Laos caused thousands of houses in communes on the border of Nghe An province to be flooded more than 2 meters deep. To date, many communes are still in a state of flooding, traffic is cut off, and access is difficult.

To enable users of all networks to communicate via Viettel waves in isolated areas, Viettel has opened roaming in 16 communes in the Nghe An border area, connecting telecommunication waves. Maintaining stable operation of Viettel's telecommunication network in communes affected by floods, meeting communication and rescue needs.

Viettel network in Nghe An, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong , Hung Yen, Ninh Binh and Thanh Hoa provinces was maintained stable, equivalent to the time before the storm. In these provinces, the demand for mobile services of customers on Viettel network increased sharply, in which data usage increased from 7-21%.

In addition, Viettel is preparing a solution using drones for broadcasting. Drones fly at an altitude of 100 meters, creating a coverage area of ​​6 km radius, can reach flooded areas, landslides or mountainous terrain in conditions where roads are isolated and broadcasting vehicles cannot reach, ensuring smooth communication for search and rescue operations.

Before the storm, Viettel had prepared backup plans for batteries and generators to operate the station in conditions affected by natural disasters. At the same time, it mobilized 100 additional rescue teams for station and cable information; 150 teams to handle fixed broadband subscriber incidents and 30 generator repair teams to support provinces affected by the storm and its circulation.

Viettel added that information rescue supplies in the provinces all have a high reserve rate, ready to expand mobile connection areas in areas that continue to be affected by storms and floods to support people to maintain communication and serve timely rescue work.
